Tips for dress shopping

Chelsea, on July 23, 2020 at 8:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I'm going dress shopping this weekend! A local boutique is doing 75% off all clearance dresses. Since it's such a big sale and they anticipate a large crowd, they're limiting brides to one hour, so I want to make the most of it!

Any tips for making dress shopping a smooth process? What type of bra should I wear? Spanx?

Here's the dress that caught my eye — and so did the price!

What a beautiful gown! I think if you know the style you want then definitely go for it but if you have any time at all to browse then it would be nice for you to try other styles just to be open to seeing if maybe those would be good on you too

That dress is beautiful and...I Agree, try on styles you didn’t necessarily think of trying. It was recommended to me at 4 different bridal shops, to have bra cups added. Everyone told me to try on dresses with no bra. I am very large, and the sewn in cups will perfect. Also remember if one style of fit and flare doesn’t work, try other ones. A mermaid fit and flare is quite different (in my opinion) than a trumpet fit and flare. I actually hated the mermaid fit, but loved trumpet. And don’t forget the seamstresses are amazing. Just ask if something can be altered or changed. Don’t be scared to ask questions! I hope you find the perfect dress, and at 75% off!

Take photos from a couple angles each. Also a video of you walking in it. Some dresses just come alive in awesome ways once you’re moving.

Review all those close to the end of your appointment to see which you’re really drawn to.
If you’re not completely in love don’t feel pressured to buy it just because it’s on sale! You could end up with dress regret and end up buying another anyway negating any savings (I made this exact mistake...multiple times).

Can you get an appointment at the same boutique or another one with the same dress or dresses you know that have in stock that you’d like to try so you can eliminate the ones your don’t like after trying to save time ?

I've tried on a few to get an idea of the styles I like (and the ones that are more flattering). Unfortunately, this boutique doesn't do appointments during the weekend of their big sale, and I can't go tomorrow, so I can't really check out the inventory.

Beautiful dress. I agree with the ladies about trying on different styles to see how the other styles would fit on you. I had pics of dresses that I wanted to try on and I bought a dress totally different than what I had in mind.

Since you have an idea of what you like and dislike on yourself, I say go for the one you like that was posted above! It's stunning and very unique. I prefer to try on dresses with no bra or anything of that sort so that I can determine whether I'd need any extra support. Don't feel pressured to settle just because it's on sale though. I hope you find the dress of your dreams! Good luck ❤️

My suggestion is to be open minded and don't be afraid to try a style that you wouldn't normally pick. And when you find the right dress, you'll definitely know it because the dress will wear you not the other way around.

I would skip wearing makeup and throw your hair up in a bun so you can change out of dresses fast. Also I would run to the dress you posted because it is gorgeous! Also pull a few odd balls that you would never pick because that will probably be what you pick lol.

Definitely be open minded. Grab the dress you posted first since you already have your eyes on it, and also grab other similar and different styles/silhouettes. As far as what you should wear, both shops I went to recommended light shareware if you choose to wear it, and no bra was needed. The dresses these days usually come with cups in them. Every dress I tried on had cups and it was great not having to worry about a bra. But if you do wear a bra make sure it's nude and strapless. If you wear shareware make sure that's nude as well.
