Tips and Gratuities

Sarah, on August 23, 2021 at 12:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

What do you do about tipping during the wedding. I will have a DJ, photographer, videographer, shuttle driver, lighting person and wait staff and day of coordinator (provided by the caterer). At least four of my vendors working the wedding are also the owners of their business. My understanding is, it is not considered proper etiquette to tip the owner of a business. Instead, the tip should go to the employees. IS this still the case? What have you done in that situation? For those that do get a tip/gratuity is it given in cash or included in the final payment of services? My concern is having all that cash on hand and trying to dole it out at the end of the night.

Im not sure about tipping the owner of a business but what I am doing is I wrote thank you cards to each individual vendor and put their tip in with the card. I put their name and what they are doing on the outside of the card (such as Kevin DJ) and am sealing the envelopes. I will have either my mom or maid of honor both of whom I trust completely hand them out day of.

I've read the same thing about tips and business owners, bit I'm still tripping them. They changed my date (due to COVID) without any additional charges. I plan to have envelopes with a thank you and the tip, which will be handed to them towards the end of the night
I'm having trouble with people who are dropping items off with mild set setup, ie Floralist and Cake. They say 20 per person but I don't think I'm going to see them. . .and I'm worried FH won't see them either.

Following, although my caterer included the gratuity for waitstaff in the final pricing. But interested in the other vendors. Didn't even think of that.

Hi Sarah! I decided to tip regardless of whether or not the vendor owned their own business! For example, my photographer is a business of one but she went above and beyond so I definitely wanted to give her a tip!!

My parents helped dole out the tips on the wedding day, but we had all the cash separated into labeled envelopes so it was easy for them to hand out!

Here's a helpful tipping guide you can check out that breaks everything down:

Exactly How Much To Tip Wedding Vendors!

I’m curious about this guide. I’m paying for hair and makeup for my whole crew which is $2300. Based on this tip would be $500 which seems really excessive to me. Do I really have to spend that much on a tip when I’m spending so much o the services and she owns her business?
