Tipping

Cassie, on August 13, 2022 at 5:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

So are we suppose to really tip makeup and hair by a certain %. for hair and makeup if it is over 500 then they would be tipped an additional 100+?

I am really confused by the tipping situation. Also they own their business.

You typically tip your hair and make up artists just like you would if you were going to a salon. I usually tip at least 20%, so that is what I will be doing for my wedding team as well.

We tipped 20% for hair and makeup. However, for our dj, bar tender & photographer we gave them each $150 because they all did such a great job.

I may tip my hair/makeup but they own their own business so it may not be 20%. If I tipped all of my vendors 20% I would be in the hole several thousand dollars just in tips. I think if your vendor owns their own business and they do a great job and you would like to tip them a little extra then I think it’s fine but don’t feel pressured to tip 20%

Tips is completely out of of control and needs to be revamped seriously. They should never be given before the wedding occurs or even on the wedding night. You have no clue what is going on behind the scenes: which vendors didn’t show up or did a horrible job. Wait until after the wedding has passed at least a week when you are down from cloud 9 and are in a clear head space to be able to objectively assess their performances. You cannot do that before or during the wedding. Then, tips should only be given to those who went above and beyond the call of duty. Otherwise you are praising vendors for giving you bad service. Popular opinion is to give everyone a tip like water whether it’s deserved or not and many vendors have not done anything to deserve the tip they should never receive.

It doesn’t matter if the vendor owns their business, contrary to popular belief, if you feel they went above and beyond and and deserve a tip.
