Tipping

Jocelyn, on August 1, 2021 at 11:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
After paying for my upcoming wedding, there isn't really anything left. Is it bad if we can't tip the vendors? Are we obligated?

If people offer stellar service then of course you should tip them. If you really can’t afford it. A heart felt letter would be appreciated and then I would send a tip as soon as I could.

Tips are never required and should not be given unless the vendor went above and beyond the call of duty. Bad service, no shows, and simply showing up to do their job without anything special show for it do not warrant tips. You should always wait until after the wedding is over by a couple weeks to assess the quality of service subjectively. A glowing review on all platforms and a thank you note is sufficient.

Read your contracts with a fine tooth comb because many companies such as catering include the tip as gratuity automatically.

Tips are required for vendors providing you a service, just like a waiter or your hairdresser. You should budget for tip in your total budget.

15-20% is standard for tipping for wedding services, and should definitely be factored into your overall budget

Tipping is usually etiquette for vendors. Not tipping wedding vendors is equatable to not tipping servers and hairdressers. If you cannot tip at the moment, I would write a review and tip at a later time when you can afford it. Most people factor in tips when budgeting for their wedding.

Yes, you are required to tip people providing you a service! The standard is 20%. If you cannot afford to tip your vendors, you need to find a way to cut back on your wedding costs, because it seems you have over spent.
