Tipping the Venue??

Our venue wrote a "suggested tip" on our final paperwork of $800-$1100. This seemed ridiculous to me as we are paying a substantial amount to the venue, what's the tip for? We're tipping all our vendors, catering staff, DOC (who is through the venue), and a service fee was included in our payment...

Did you tip yours? Or is this just a money grab by our venue?

Our venue isn't providing anything but a space. All of our vendors are outside people, who I will tip. I can't imagine the venue expecting a tip in that case. What would it be for anyway? We even have to hire a clean up crew. Sounds ridiculous to me.

@Nancy- yep! And they added it to EVERYTHING! Every cocktail, soda, meal, ceremony space, etc. had the service fee. The only thing that didn't was the 2 hours extra reception time we added. It came to be a lot of money. And of course they added it on before calculating tax. Fun stuff. Lol!

My venue added a 21% tax and gratuity charge. That is all the tip they will be getting from me.

My venue does tax and 22% administration fees. That is not considered gratuity. Their suggested gratuity is $5-$7 per person. I will decide what to give them the day of.

Monica, if you care, you should find out whether that is the salary for the servers or a tip.

This is one of my giant pet peeves; the lack of transparency in language there..

Ours says 7%sales tax and 21% service fee. I asked and the service fee covers the cost of the venue to staff the reception and cocktail hour/ basically covers the hourly wage the servers /bartenders/bathroom attendants/maintenance staff/valet, along with a modest tip.

I'm sure my guests would end up tipping the bartenders, but I think we're going to add a modest tip for the waitstaff too.

Our venue has a 17% service charge and 6% sales tax and we are paying a flat fee for valet parking for all guests.

The gratuity and taxes are included in our price and we will be tipping our day of coordinator, but not the venue. That smells fishy to me.
