Tipping the On-site Coordinator

Alexis, on January 7, 2019 at 1:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

Hey guys, just looking for some advice on etiquette here. I am wondering what the protocol is on tipping an on-site coordinator. I've done some research about tipping that seems to insinuate if there is a service charge built into the food and drink fee, it includes/covers that. We are being charged 20% on food and drink so if that's the case, should I not worry about it? We meet with her 3 times before the wedding for various things, she is available to text or call with any questions, and we have her there to coordinate everything day of/rehearsal. She has been wonderful and so helpful with everything, but does it seem like the kind of thing we should be tipping extra for? I've also heard of thank you cards and small gifts after the wedding, more appropriate? Let me know what you think.

Hi Alexis! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement!

Tipping your coordinator is completely up to you. If you feel she was helpful and had a positive impact on guests and the success & flow of your wedding day, I think it would be a kind gesture. Here's an article about vendors and the etiquette regarding tipping or not that might help, too:

I am kind of in the same boat although it does not look like on our contract that we have a service fee. The day of coordinator was given to us for free/waived since we booked a newly built venue, but that being said she is the event coordinator for the venue. Idk seems weird to me to give her more when you already know she's making the big bucks. I am still not sure what I will do. As Maren pointed out, it is up to your discretion it seems. I am going to ask about if tip is included in the cost for the waitstaff/bartenders/chef and if she says no I am sure she will give me a ballpark and mention about herself if she chooses.
