Tipping Photographers?

OnTheWayToMrsA, on August 18, 2017 at 1:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Today (tomorrow?) is our big day! We're gathering our tip money and realized we don't have anything yet for our 2 photographers and videographer. My internet searches are giving me mixed information on it. First, should I tip them? I assume so. If so, how much each? (none of them own the company). We live on Long Island, if that helps with anything.

I am tipping them after the wedding. I am going to send each vendor a personalized thank you card with their tip inside. I'm not going to tip anyone until I see how they did at their job.

That may be smart. We already wrote out our thank you cards because we're really confident in the service we'll receive (maybe more optimism than confidence, lol) but I guess that was a little too much lol. Either way, it's all finished except the photographers. We did our engagement shoot with them and were amazed by the beautiful photos, just not sure of the appropriate tip for 2 of them plus the videographer :/

We will have 2 photographers, but 1 is only staying for the first 2 hours to help with time and there are a few shots that we want where our photographer suggested 2 people. We will give the extra person their tip after pictures when we are getting ready for our entrance. The main photographer will be getting hers at the end of the wedding. We are doing 20% of the final bill, but we love her work and she has been beyond AMAZING through everything. The extra photographer will get less obviously, but we haven't decided how much yet.

We had 2 photographers and a videographer as well and tipped $75 for the lead photographer and $50 for both the associate photographer and videographer. We tried contacting the company for recommendations of what clients typically tip, but they just sent us a general tip guide off of The Knot. We gave what we were able to give.

We had one eight-hour photographer, one four-hour, and one eight-hour videographer. We tipped each eight-hour guy $100 and the four-hour guy $50.

Tipping is obviously not mandatory, but it is always SO appreciated by vendors Smiley smile Whatever you are comfortable with tipping is what you should tip. For vendors with larger balances, people often tip a set amount rather than a percentage. $50, $75, $100, $200, etc. Whatever you feel is deserved if someone went above and beyond to make your day extra special (this is regardless of whether or not they own the company - ignore the "rule" that you don't tip business owners). The best tip of all is a glowing and detailed review and referring other customers to us! Smiley smile

I think we will be able to do $100 each. I hope that's enough, I almost feel like it isn't :/

If $100 is what you can give, that's plenty! They will appreciate your thoughtfulness Smiley smile
