Tipping on makeup trial?

Rachel , on June 11, 2018 at 11:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hey guys! My mua includes a free trial in her pricing. Is it customary to tip one free trial? If so how much?

I tipped on my trial, even though its a service she offered she still took the time out of her day to schedule me, and spent the product to do my face up for the wedding and listened to any adjustments I wanted to make. I tipped the same way I would for any service, gauged how I felt about it and tipped the 15-20% accordingly (I tipped 20% and my trial was 75$ that comes out of my total bill)

I think you should tip at a trial; just like if you went to a salon and got your hair done!

They are spending time, effort and their product to make sure you look good and like the look you choose for your big day. You should treat it the same as any other service provided to you and tip accordingly

I did a makeup trial but I did not tip... She charged me $100 and it wasn't any better than I do on my own. She used drugstore make up and packed it on too much. I can do my own makeup but I wanted someone to pamper me that day. I have very expensive makeup and mid range makeup that I typically use for my skin and her set up just didn't work for me. Being a WOC (woman of color) drug store foundations just don't fit the bill (I looked orange when we were finished).

Oh no!! That's awful. I'm sorry that happened! Did you find someone better or are you going to do your own?

I was initially going to tip on the trial but they mixed up my appointment time and had me coming 45 minutes later than the appointment I requested (12:00) and assured me she’d start right at 12:45 when I stressed that I’d be on a tight schedule due to the change in appointment time. She didn’t end up starting my makeup until 1:10 and I was 15 minutes late to my own bridal shower as a result. She did a good job so I still want to use her for my wedding but I just felt like that particular service did not deserve a tip. The trial cost me $75. If your mua does a good job then I’d say u can give her a tip or just include it in the final tip after the wedding.

I don't plan to tip for trial, just the wedding.
