Tipping engagement session photographers?

We have our engagement session on Thursday (just a short 30 minute session), and the photographer is NOT our wedding photographer.

Are tips expected here? I am seeing very divided takes on the internet.

I personally would wait until you receive your pictures and if you believe they went above and beyond, then I’d send one after the fact in a nice thank you note.

Just as PP advised, I’d wait to see the quality of the work before I made a decision to tip. But if you are satisfied I’d definitely give 20% with a note.

Tips are always voluntary, so ultimately it is 100% up to you. The photographer who did our engagement photos will not be our wedding photographer either (since we are having a Destination wedding). She was absolutely amazing, and I tipped her very, very well!

If they do a great job and you love their work I'd definitely tip them - and give them an awesome review online! 🌟
