Tipping Engagement Photographer?

Sarah, on April 4, 2017 at 8:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Sorry if a lot of people post this, but is it normal? I read somewhere that some photographers find it weird. What is the protocol for it? And while on it, who all DO you tip on the wedding day, too?

I'm a photographer and wouldn't consider it "weird". I never expect a tip, but it's always greatly appreciated. If you think your photographer goes above and beyond at your engagement session, it's okay to tip them Smiley smile It's also okay if you want to wait until after you receive your engagement photos (e.g., sending a tip with a thank you note) or after your wedding day (e.g., after the wedding or sending a thank you note with a tip). A glowing and detailed review is also a wonderful tip!

ETA: On your wedding day, tip anyone you tip goes above and beyond to make your day special and amazing. It's appropriate to tip some vendors a percentage (like 15-20% for hair, makeup, etc.), while it's appropriate to only tip a set amount to other vendors (like $50, $100, etc. to DJ, catering staff, photographer, etc.).

We won ours from a wedding fair (and had no intentions of booking him for our wedding) so we did. We saw that he normally charged $450 so we gave him $75

If it's the same photographer do you just tip him at the end of the wedding or for each the engagement session seperate?

TheBrideSmiley smile -- It's fine to tip at the end of the wedding for everything. It's really a personal choice about tipping, especially when services are sort of split up like this (engagement and wedding).

If you're using the same photographer for the wedding, I'd wait until the wedding to consider tipping

As a photographer we never expect the tip but find it rewarding when a client does so. Ron & Joy
