Tipping at wedding on discounted/barter services

Dizzy, on October 9, 2021 at 2:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

We got some good deals for the wedding bc of barters/last minute hiring. Definitely want to tip. Want to know how much to tip- all of this will be cash. Philly/NJ area

Cake- normal price $456 + $20 delivery/setup (this seems crazy low for delivery!) I bartered some of my service and paid $314 cash

Photography- normal base package is $2000, we did 4 hours instead of 6 and 150 instead of 200 photos, only paying $500 since smaller pkg and last minute when ours bailed/they had a cancellation too

Kitchen crew- 2 people will reheat food we made and put out/refill/clean, ~5-6 hours, $400. No idea what this is supposed to cost, we got numbers as low as $400 and as high as $2600 for the same thing. Also a last minute hire due to other team bailing/they had a last minute opening too.

Band- they are my friends and most have said they don't want anything, it's their gift. So it will probably go into the band fund, altho it's also a hard time for musicians some can use it. Was thinking $1k since we'd easily do a club date for that? A wedding would be like $3-4k normally tho they will only play for an hour not 2-4 hours so we can PARTY.

Hair/styling- my friend will do for free. I will get her a gift instead of cash but approximate amount to spend? She doesn't normally do hairstyles, just cuts which range from $35-60.

Flowers- my cousin is growing. I have no idea what she normally charges (she does a few a year apparently), will be 15-20 tables' worth of centerpieces and apparently including some pricy chis like dahlias. Same deal, cash feels weird, will get her a gift.

Hi Dizzy!! Here's a helpful tipping guide you can check out that breaks everything down:

Exactly How Much To Tip Wedding Vendors: A Complete List

I'd try to use the original cost (not the discounted cost) as your base for the tip!! Or if there's a really big gap in between those two numbers, pick a halfway point!
