Tipping at Tasting?

Hello lovely Wedding Wire friends -

My fiancé and I are having BBQ at our wedding. We will be doing a tasting with his parents (so four people including us) at Mission BBQ this weekend - we've heard great things and can't wait! However, the tasting is free - how do we tip on this? The woman helping us is very nice and I don't want to short her in any way! Should I tip? Is there a non-awkward way to tip when we won't be signing a bill? Thanks in advance!

How much do you think a normal plated meal and drinks costs at this place per person? Base your tip on that. If there's extra work involved with the tasting, tip a bit more. So say $35 x4- at that price you'd normally be paying $140, -$28 would equal a 20% tip. Bring cash for the tip and round it out-slip the server $20 or $30 or $40 depending on the normal prices of the place.

I had this same anxiety before our tasting. Our menu is custom created and our tasting was just us and the caterer/chef. Our quote for the meal was $20pp so that's what we tipped.

I also want to add, she looked genuinely shocked that we tipped her and tried to refuse! It is definitely good etiquette, but don't over stress it because I don't think they expect much. A complimentary tasting is them trying to impress YOU.
