Tipping at bridal salon

Jennifer, on January 5, 2020 at 12:49 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I ordered my gown today! Yay!

However, when I was making my downpayment with my debit card, the card reader prompted for a tip amount. I know you're expected to tip vendors and such, but I hadn't heard about tipping when you purchase your gown. I'm wondering if this is the norm, or if maybe it is a default setting type thing with the card reader. I have the final payment to still, so I will have the opportunity to tip at that point, but would this be normal to tip?

I honestly never thought to tip the bridal salon, so I didn't.

Youre buying a dress from them? I wouldnt tip-Youre kind of doing a service to them. Youre supporting their business at the opportunity cost of choosing a different place. Its not important unless you REALLY apprecuated their help and feel it necessary

I didn't tip more would I. I guess maybe for the work of the consultant but not even then.

I wouldn't tip. I feel like tipping has escaped into industries where it doesn't belong. So while they are probably hoping for 20% on top of a pricey gown, that isn't the type of work that warrants a tip.

I think a lot of the card readers are just pre=-programming that in now (I know Square does). It’s annoyingly because it’s making it seem like tipping is normal. I agree tipping is unnecessary for a bridal salon.

I don’t think you’re supposed to tip when purchasing your gown...you don’t tip when purchasing clothing at a store, plus for the prices of some of these dresses a tip is just asking for too much haha.

Nope, a tip isn’t required and it’s silly for a shop to ask for such. The best thing you can do the the sales consultant (and shop) is write a great review here or on Yelp and recommend her to friends.
