Tip or no tip??

Heather, on July 4, 2020 at 8:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 9
Long story short, we canceled our original wedding plans and had to resort to an elopement instead. Just me, my fiancé, and our photographer. Our photographer has his own business where he offers backpacking elopements and the cost was ~$4600 total. Since it’s only him, do we still tip? I mean that’s almost another $500 in just a tip if we did the bare minimum of 10%. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t appreciate all his hard work but I’m just torn between tipping vs not tipping since all of the money we’ve invested is already going to himself. Anyone else know what to do?

My photographer and cinematographer together cost about $3500. I’d say that fee seem likes it an all inclusive price as it is

It is inclusive. It will be gear, food, the photography (obvi), all the edited prints afterwards, but there wasn’t a specific “gratuity added” to our invoices so I just don’t know if I still need to include that???

    It's his own business, so I wouldn't.

If it is his own business then tipping is not necessary. If he goes above and beyond for you guys at your elopement then maybe give him an extra $100. You don’t need to do 10%.

If you feel he went above and beyond the call of duty, then feel free to tip what you think he deserves after the wedding day is over when you have had time to assess how well your vendors performed. Don't tip for bad service or simply doing the job he was hired for, regardless if he owns the business or not.

I wouldn't tip but maybe a nice kind gift would be good as a form of tip! You get to know your photographer and kind of get an idea how they are and what they would like. I'm considering getting mine something that will help them continuing their photography or a strap for their camera personalized with their name on it.Smiley smile just as a thank you gift. (there a nice inexpensive ways to say thank you without spending $500 on a tip_)

My photographer owns her own business, but I still tipped her.
