Tip for cleaning your ring!

FutureMrsForte, on December 26, 2015 at 10:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I have been having the hardest time finding a jewelry cleaner that can clean my ring well. My jeweler does such an amazing job cleaning my ring, but I can not always get to him and I always want to clean my ring once a week. Well...my jeweler told me a dirty little secret today that all you girls should try. All you need is a tooth brush and tooth paste! Just put the toothpaste on your tooth brush and brush your ring. The results are incredible! Better than any jewelry cleaner, cheap or expensive, that I have ever used! Not as good as my jewelery of course, but it came the closest possible!

Thanks for the tip! My jeweler told me hot water. I normally get a coffee mug put a little water in it and pop in the microwave for 30-40 secs to get it real hot but not boiling. After you take it out drop your ring in for a min or two. The heat really breaks up all the dirt and oils on the ring. Comes out shiny every time

Ammonia and water is another great trick. Mix equal parts and clean with cloth.

I put some hot water in a little 4 Oz mason jar, pour some basic blue dawn in and mix it around with the non brush end of a baby toothbrush. Let it soak while I shower and get ready. Then I swoop the brush end in there for some extra soap and brush my ring under warm water. I blow dry it on cool and it turns out amazing. I do it a few times a week. I don't think any thing can get it as good as the jeweler but this is close!

I agree just dawn dish liquid in warm water. I usually polish all my gold jewelry with toothpaste but, i read its too harsh on the diamond. So look into it.

My jeweler - also a family friend - sent me powervescent tablets as an engagement gift and I LOVE them. The little tablets fizz all the dirt away and are fun to watch tooSmiley smile You can find packs of them for a few dollars on amazon. I use them about once a month, not sure if I'd recommend them for weekly cleanings but my ring usually sparkles like the day I got it for at least a week or two.

My ring is sterling silver. So I just have a silver polishing cloth for day to day and a diamond/gemstone gel and brush. Once a month I put it in my sonic jewelry cleaner.

I just use dish soap to soak it in weekly. Then gently brush it with a soft toothbrush.

I use that red jar too... My ring always shines and sparkles. I like the other tips, these are great to know if I'm not home and notice I want to clean my ring.

Ha ha ha...when you go to your dentist? Ask them to throw your rings in the steam cleaner ;-) Mine does it every time I go, in fact, he suggested it!

My jeweler told me that toothpaste is not safe for your engagement ring because small traces of toothpaste can dry and settle in the prongs between the diamond and can cause it to chip and/or loosen up over time. He said the safest thing was boiling hot water then run with ammonia after.

I use tooth paste to caulk holes in walls, I wouldn't use it to clean my ring. I use Dawn soap and warm water.
