Tip for bakery?

Cake Bakery Tips?

The bakery we're using has added a service charge of 10.5% to our estimate. I asked about it as I've never heard of tipping a bakery before and was told it was for the people who do the baking/decorating. Bakery staff said I could have it taken off the contract, but maybe I'm just out of touch and tipping the cake bakery really is the norm and worried if I did ask to have the amount taken out of the contract, we might not get the best work!! We are in SoCal (Santa Barbara) and the bakery we're using is mainly known for cupcakes but also do event cakes. Thanks for any input!

As a planner, this is a new one for me...

Neither have I, but then never ordered a wedding cake before : ) Maybe it's a local thing… Wondering if I should just pay it to make sure we get good service. The bakers will see on our contract that no "service charge" is included.

Call a couple of other bakeries in the area and ask if they have a service charge. If the answer is no, I would either remove it or think about a new bakery that doesn't pull shenanigans.

Great idea to call around and I certainly will. But probably too late for us to switch bakeries.

    Thanks for your input!

What!? That sounds kinda ridiculous. The reason you pay a premium for wedding cakes is because of all the decorating and now a fee on top of the price?
