Ok we're getting married in August and we're on a TINY budget so we plan to have a very small and intimate ceremony followed by a drop-in reception for everyone else. So what is the proper etiquette for invitations? We were thinking of just sending save the dates to the people we really want there...

Ok we're getting married in August and we're on a TINY budget so we plan to have a very small and intimate ceremony followed by a drop-in reception for everyone else. So what is the proper etiquette for invitations? We were thinking of just sending save the dates to the people we really want there and making a FB event for everyone else. I know it's our wedding and we can do it however we want but I'm still curious if maybe that plan is tacky or considered poor-mannered...

My fiancé & I are getting married August 3rd. We're having a small ceremony (close family only) in the morning of the 3rd & planning a BBQ Reception - open house style that evening in the back yard. We created our own 'Save the Dates' & emailed them to our out of town guests so theyd have. I created a FB 'event' for our friends and shared our wedding website along with the password. All of those things were free. I'm currently finishing up our invitations.... They are post cards. One is for guest that are invited to the ceremony & the "reception" the other is for guest who are only invited to the "reception". Once I finish editing (hopefully by this weekend) I will send them to be printed. If you want to do something similar, http://www.printsmadeeasy.com/ is super inexpensive. I've had my daughters graduation postcard announcements printed with them. It's like 30.00 for 100 postcards. I am also requesting people RSVP by phone or on the wedding website.

Thanks yall. We've decided to do reception invites to everyone and put inserts with ceremony details to the ones invited to the ceremony. We're designing our invites on Avery's website and plan on printing them ourselves. We will likely still do a Facebook event to let people know but not really rely on that for an accurate count. We figure since we're doing an open-house style reception (finger foods and not a meal) a ballpark number will suffice. Thanks again for the suggestions and feedback Smiley smile
