Tinea Versicolor...

Christine, on August 3, 2018 at 10:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28
Ok so I'm feeling a bit strange putting a medical issue on here, but I'm not looking for medical advice. I've had Tinea Versicolor on my upper back for over 10 years. I've been to several dermatologists, tried just about every medicine there is and it comes back every time.
If you don't know what it is, its basically patches of skin with no pigment, so my back looks like I have ghost white leopard spots.
My question is, if there's anyone else out the with this issue, has anyone tried sunless tanner or spray tan? I'm going to have my hair half down to cover my back but I'm hoping there's another solution, besides make up. Thank you!

In would consider using the foundation Kat Von D used to cover her tattoos. I think it's part of her personal line. Good coverage might help create a more even tone. Congratulations and good luck on your special day!

I have it too! I hate it! I was told head and shoulders helps. I put it on a little before I shower. I haven't noticed much difference.
I just got a spray tan and you can still see it.
Regular tanning beds make it worse. I've used a sunless tanner lotion (like a self tanner) I feel like that helped some. Ill see if I can find a picture.

Ok so i lied. When I used the sunless tanner, that didn't help either. Look through my pictures, mine at least, it doesn't show up as much when my skin is normal. Mines on my chest, the pic I posted is for a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure i was tanning in addition to the sunless tanner. You can see how much it shows up

Ugh! Isn't it so frustrating? Are you going to use make up for yours?

You know I hadn't really thought about. When I'm not tan it's not too noticeable. I'll probably play it by ear. I still have about 5 and half months so we'll see how it looks then. 🤷‍♀️

I don't have this, but my husband does. His definitely gets worse when he's been out in the sun. Is there a way you could add like a sheer overlay or lace piece to your dress to cover it up? I know how much my husband struggles with this so I hope you can find a solution. You'll look beautiful no matter what!

My son’s bride has it and she wore a sweetheart neckline dress with her hair up. She didn’t care who saw it. She did use body cream to make sure her skin wasn’t dry. The wedding was at night and no one said anything to her about it. She has it on shoulders neck and chest.

If you are super concerned about it showing get a good make up artist for the wedding who will be doing airbrush makeup and they can make sure it is covered up with makeup for the big day. They will know exactly which product to use and the airbrush is great at being able to match different pigments and undertones if used correctly so it should look really natural

    Have you heard of Dermablend?

It covers tattoos! I would ask your makeup artist if they can cover it for you if you purchase the concealer, or ask if they recommend something else. I'm not familiar with this medical issue but I have seen speciality tattoo artists that will mix ink to match your skin and actually fill in the missing pigment, its pretty incredible. I realize thats an extreme solution but if it bothers you a lot maybe something to look in to!

Or you could see if there is a nude mesh material that you could maybe make a "shirt" of sorts maybe add crystals or lace to match your dress?

I actually use that for my acne scars, but I'm not ok putting make up on my back, I sweat a lot and I should rather just have the spotted back than ruin my dress. It just sucks. Every summer I tell myself maybe it won't come back, but, it does.

I have the same issue and my wedding is in a little over a month. I've tried everything and the only thing that I have noticed that works is putting Head and Shoulders shampoo on my back and chest, let it sit for 10 minutes before I shower, and then apply this cream I researched that you can get on amazon. After a week or two, you can tell a difference. I thought it was gone and then stopped my routine and it came back. I will keep doing this every day until my wedding and then try a spray tan. Here is the link to the cream I got on amazon. It is a little expensive, but works.

How did the spray tan go? Same exact boat as you, used terrasil and selsun blue 3 weeks leading up to tomorrows scheduled spray tan... Do I get the spray or skip? I have heard mixed reviews on making it worse. THANK YOU

I get this all the time! I usually leave it alone until summer. Then, my dermatologist gives me a prescription and it clears up for a few months and then comes back, but by then it's fall and I don't care as much. I get it on my chest and a little on my neck. I did this last year for my wedding and was able to tan nicely naturally and was all clear on my wedding day in late July.

Hi! Actually no, the first day it looked great and after the 2nd and on it was not good..worse than a real sun tan. I was really glad I got a few to try it before my wedding day. After some failed attempts They recommended a higher level bed. It had more bronzing and less UV. I went 2-3 times a week leading up to the wedding. This worked in combo with washing daily with Nizoral. My skin was flawless my wedding day.
