Timing!

Ellissa, on January 5, 2020 at 9:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hello all!!

I need help with the timing of my wedding. We are getting married at a venue that we pretty much do all the planning ourselves.

The ceremony and reception will be at the same place. It's not a religious ceremony so I don't expect it to take long. We are each writing our own vows. How long do you think a ceremony like that would be? Our friend is the officiant. I'm not even sure how long the reception is usually supposed to be. The noise ordnance is 10 PM. There is a bonfire from 10 pm - 12 am.

I'm trying to plan when the ceremony will start, cocktail hour and then reception. The wedding is October 16th, if the sunlight needs to be involved.

Help! Thanks

We budgeted a half hour for our whole ceremony (processional, vows, and recessional), then an hour for cocktail hour, and then four hours for the reception.

Do you want sunlight involved? That may be tricky if you want to end at 12pm. I wouldn't have longer than a 6 hour wedding total. Unless the bonfire is part of the after party?

The ceremony would likely be 20 or so minutes. Are you intending for the fire to be like an after party?

Yes the bonfire would be more of an after party thing, probably just a few friends that hang back afterwords. Just to relax hopefully haha

I was thinking 30 mins for the whole ceremony also.

So do you think this is good?

    Ceremony 4:30-5

    Cocktail Hour 5-6

    Reception 6-10

The ceremony is outside so I'd like the sun to be out for that and then pictures. The bonfire is just a small after party, I'm assuming only a few friends will hang back and relax.

Yeah, that sounds like it would work out well. I would just keep the weather into account. I don't know where you live, but October can get pretty cold by me. You don't want guests freezing if everything is outside.

My wedding was October 19. We had our ceremony at 3:30. The photographer calculated that time based on sunset in order to get great lighting for our photos after the ceremony and before dinner. We got married in the mountains so the sun went behind a mountain around that time. Timing! 1
