Timing for Winter Wedding

Jeanette, on August 6, 2018 at 1:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello, I am trying to figure out the timing of our January wedding in Georgia. We are not going to see each other before the wedding so we won't be able to do outside pictures before the ceremony. If we have a 30 minute ceremony with a 1 hour cocktail hour after what time should we start the ceremony to get pictures in good light? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jeanette!! Welcome to the community! Did you have a preferred time of day for your wedding? Typically in January, it gets dark around 4:40 pm. Considering the duration of your ceremony and cocktail hour you can work backward to determine a good time to get everything started. I would also keep in mind how long it'll take everyone to get ready for the wedding and any travel time to the ceremony location. You can also check with your photographer to see if they recommend a certain time to start the wedding that'll allow room for photos before sunset!

January bride here! We're thinking ceremony around 245, time for pics after before sunset. We're not doing a first look either.

Thank you Jayla! We are having an evening wedding and it was originally scheduled for 5 pm, but I want pictures outside so I am thinking of moving it up to 4:00 or 4:30 pm. Also, our wedding and reception are at the same venue. I will definitely reach out to our photographer and see what she says.

I would put 3pm on invite, start at 330pm and finish at 4pm.

    Ceremony 330pm

    Cocktail Hour 4pm

That gives you from 4-5pm for pictures and you should be able to catch sunset in there.

    Good luck!

Thank you Micki! That sounds like a good timeline! Do you typically put a time earlier than the actual start time of the ceremony? I don't know these things, so forgive my ignorance!

I just went to a wedding this weekend and the venue told her to put 30min in advance of her start time. I thought it was mean but people were still arriving at the start time.
