Timeline/DJ?

Deactivated, on June 30, 2017 at 2:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We just got our contract from our DJ and were looking to request changes, but FH and I are so unsure, so I wanted some opinions! Firstly, is your DJ doing your ceremony music? If not, who is?

Our venue needs up cleaned up and out by 10 PM, and I want to give us enough time to clean everything. I was thinking:

Ceremony 230-3

Cocktail hour 3-4

Dinner 4-5

Dancing 5-830

I though that would leave buffer room if the ceremony or dinner go over, we can shorten dancing time. Is that too long? In total that would be 6 hours for our DJ, should we cut it to 5? In your opinion is 4 too early for dinner?

Any advice or suggestions are welcome!

We're inviting roughly 130 guests, but anticipate about 100

Are you cleaning up from 830-10?

That seems really early for dinner. Start the ceremony at 4, cocktail hour 4:30-5, dinner and toasts at 5 and cut the cake and do first dances around 6, that leaves at least 2 hours for the dance floor open to guests. That's more than enough.

Clean up shouldn't take an hour and a half... from personal experience it's taken about a half hour with help of BM's. The DJ's that I've seen have done the ceremony music as well.

We would be cleaning up 830-10. We actually have to be off the premises by 10 or we get charged for an extra hour.

@Teal Wedding, that actually sounds good! I'll talk to my FH. If we did this we'd have to do first look and photos before? My only concern, is the layout of the property. The only areas for first look photos are in plain sight of the ceremony location. Do people usually wrap up first look photos by half an hour before the ceremony?

Thanks @FutureMrs! I'm super timely so I always worry about having enough time. We originally were going to go until 9 but I started to over think and panic lol

At the receptions I've been too, some of the family starts picking stuff up if it makes sense about 30 minutes before the reception ends (like setting the guest book and stuff from other now unused tables all together in one place), then it only takes about 20-30 minutes to haul everything out when the night ends. I assume the venue will sweep/take out trash/etc. and that's why they want you out early? If not maybe allow an extra 15 minutes for that stuff? My mom and her sisters (she has 4) have an unwritten agreement among themselves to stay after each other's kids' weddings to help with that stuff. I might hire someone anyway just in case they don't, but my mom thinks I shouldn't bother since she has helped w all their kids' weddings.

@Stephanie Yes! Well we have to put all the trash and recycle in the right dumpsters though. They're a state park/museum/historical site so they have maintenance follow right after us. But basically he should just check to make sure its clean. My dad wants to hire a crew to clean after, but I'm still deciding, depending how much there will be to clean lol
