Timeline; when to do shoe game?

Emma, on September 11, 2020 at 12:32 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Would you guys mind looking over my timeline for me? The cocktail hour and reception will be in the same room. Our dinner is buffet style. My caterer said it should take 15-20 minutes to get everyone served based off our headcount. We wanted to do the speaches during dinner so that guest aren't hungry and bored. We are not doing a garter toss. FH really wants to do the shoe game. Where would you add that in?

Hmm I've always read this an alternative to dancing thing. Can you do it during dinner with the speeches?

I’ve been to a few weddings that do both but I can’t remember when exactly they did it. I feel like we could probably pull it off during dinner. We’ll be the first ones served so we should be done eating within 20 minutes. But then we wouldn’t have time to go to each table

I would do cake dancing before you open the dance floor

Makes sense! I actually just sent my mom the timeline and she said the same thing because “most old people leave after the cake is cut” 😂
So then it’d be dinner, cut cake , father daughter dance, open dance floor

Definitely make sure to visit tables if you don't greet guests after the ceremony. Ask your dj when they think it could fit with your timeline

We don’t have a “real” dj, we are using my MOHs step dads equipment and he’s going to MC for us when needed

Have you gone through this with your photographer? They may have some advice.

I think I’d move father/daughter dance alongside the couples first dance. I’d probably do toasts and shoe game side by side, as guests are finishing their meals, and then open the dance floor. Cake cutting a little bit later can give you so flexibility if you’re trying to step out for sunset photos or any portraits after cocktail hour.
Last wedding I attended with the shoe game did it in the middle of dancing and it was kind of odd to me personally... we were all having a ball on the dance floor and the staff abruptly cleared us off the dance floor while they fumbled to set up chairs for the shoe game. 🤷‍♀️ Some people lost their enthusiasm for the dance floor after that, oddly enough.

I didn’t want to have to make people wait so long for dinner switch is why we were going to have the father daughter dance during the end of dinner. The shoe game thing makes sense. I think we’ll switch that around to before dancing

We were gonna do the shoe game at our wedding, but my brother and his wife did it at theirs a few months before our wedding so we wanted to do something different. We did a trivia game instead. We did that right before opening the dance floor.
