Timeline ??? How far in advance

Christine, on May 4, 2019 at 9:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14
How far in advance do you ask the people you want in your wedding I'f they would like to be part of it? How do you go about asking them ? Do you send some formal invite or just call them up ?

10-12 months out is recommended. “Bridal party proposals” have become popular, but I’m a fan of just asking. Giving an unnecessary gift puts pressure on people to say yes.

Do whatever you’re comfortable with. We asked most of our bridal party about a year out but had to wait til Easter to ask the last two since we didn’t want to do it over text.
I made proposal boxes for my girls and he just asked his guys. Just go with what you want.

I'm having a small wedding party.
Matron of honor, Maid of honor and one Bridesmaid.
My two Bff's and my future daughter in law.
I'm extremely close to all so just asked via text...they know im not one to talk on the phone often.

I asked the night he proposed, I couldn't wait 😆
I think it's totally up to you. We gave a years notice.

I asked my bridesmaid 6 months out. My FH asked his two groomsmen at the beginning after we were engaged.
We both just asked, no gifts or proposals or anything.

Depends on what you want. I asked them as soon as we got engaged, 4 years ago. Our wedding is next month. Some people say don't do it that far in advance because relationships change. Mine don't so it depends on what you want to do. All I did call them and say "hey you want to be a beidesmaid?". I'm a straight to the point person, and don't understand the need for a proposal box. My friends are the same way 🤷🏾‍♀️.

I asked my best friend to be my MOH about a month after we got engaged. I invited her out to dinner and gave her a card with a personal note about how much it would mean to me to have her by my side. I planned to ask at the engagement party, but I just couldn't wait, I was too excited. I also will be having my cousin be a co-MOH, which I ran past my best friend first to make sure she wasn't going to feel pushed aside. I did give them each a small gift- just a mug (that I decorated) full of their favorite candies. I'll try to attach pictures, I think they turned out cute. I probably asked earlier than most people suggest (about 17 months out), but my cousin and I grew up living together and are like sisters, and my best friend is family. You know your friends and family best, so whatever feels right to you. I don't think it has to be some big proposal.

I asked as soon as I was engaged lol. It’s fun for them to be a part of the wedding planning! I gave them each a note and a little lotion and mug.

I asked my MOH the first time I saw her after I got engaged.
My other 3 I asked exactly one year in advance.

I asked my bridal party a little over a week after we got engaged (last week). We're not getting married until Leap Day next year, but the bridesmaids dresses I picked out were on sale so I wanted to make sure everyone got them before they were out of stock. I mailed all my girls a letter asking them to be in my wedding along with a small gift. FH has asked 3 of his groomsmen already but will ask the others groomsmen & best man when he sees them next weekend. He also wrote a letter for his guys & included a gift (since I wanted him to).

I had people volunteer. Now, one has had to be replaced and another one is about to be if I don’t see some effort to select a dress by the deadline, of 9 days. An alternate has already been asked to be on standby.

I asked my bff and sister pretty much as soon as we got engaged. Same with his brothers! However I asked my flower girl and ring bearers maybe 6 months in advance. I didn’t do a gift or box but made sure to ask in person. And for the kids, asked their parents first.

My FH and I have each asked one person. We're waiting until we pick a venue (and thus a date) before asking the rest.
