Timeline for invatations

Aleeza, on January 25, 2018 at 12:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
Hey everyone! I am having an issue figuring out when I should start sending out my invatations. My wedding isn’t until May of 2020 so I’m not sure how far away from the wedding I need to send them out. I am also having trouble figuring out the difference between save the dates and invatations.. Please help!

Oh okay so that means the save the dates are more like a “be on the lookout for more information” kind of thing?

Yup so they are aware of your date. In case they need to make accommodations for travel and such

Save the Date is literally telling someone to "save that date." Make sure your guest list is set in stone, because anyone who receives a save the date MUST receive a wedding invitation.

Save the dates should be sent out between September - December 2019 for your May 2020 wedding.

Invitations include all pertinent information - date, time, address, RSVP, transportation, hotels, etc. These should be sent 6-8 weeks before your wedding - depending on what time in May, you are looking at sometime in March or early April 2020.

Invitations should be sent 6-9 weeks before the wedding. Save the dates are just a heads up with the date and town only, no times or locations, and they aren't necessary. I've seen people send them over a year in advance, and others about 5 months. But be careful with save the dates. They lock you into your guest list and then you're stuck inviting those people.

Save the dates are like a heads up to people you plan to invite that your wedding will be on such date and pretty much asking them not to make plans and the invitation will come soon. You can send these about 6 months before the date.
Invitations usually go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.

How many weeks are in a month? Like 3. 2 months is 6 weeks. 4 months is about 12. Therefore I was saying what you are saying but in months.

No, there are 4 weeks in a month. Two months is 8 weeks. 4 months is 16 weeks.

Okay well I got an Invitation for a destination wedding in December and the wedding is in may. That's 5 months away. It depends on everyone and depends on the wedding

There’s actually an average of 4.3 weeks per month. 28 days is 4 weeks so the only month that legitimately has 4 weeks in it is February. The rest have more.

STDs go out 6-8 months out, 8-10 for a destination wedding.
Invites go out 6-8 weeks out, 10-12 for a destination wedding.

I said an extra month. It's really not a big deal. If you're inviting people that love you to your wedding they will RSVP and they won't forget your wedding date. Like I said our friend sent us his invitation in December with his wedding in may and we haven't forgotten his wedding and we won't be forgetting to rsvp either.
