Timeline for first look

C, on August 5, 2021 at 10:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I'm wondering what time I should be photo ready by if we are doing a first look and our ceremony begins at 4PM? This is for a wedding in California in September -- sunset is around 6:50pm.

We will be doing hair and makeup offsite then moving to the bridal suite at the venue to get dressed (10 minute drive). So I also need a time to have hair and makeup done.

Definitely talk with your photographer about this. Between our photographer & our DJ, we were able to work out our timeline.

I would talk to your photographer and hair/makeup people. I had a 5pm ceremony, and we started hair and makeup at around 8:30am. We then got to the venue around noon, and then had first look/bridal party and family pictures from like 1:30-4:30.

Our ceremony was at 4:30 and we were dressed but 2:30. Between 2:30-3:45 I had photos taken with my bridesmaids, a first look with my dad, and a first look with my husband. Then I was hidden from guests after 3:45 until the ceremony.

My ceremony also starts at 4pm, and there are 4 of us having makeup done, and we are starting at 10am to be done by 2pm. I am doing the same set up as you, makeup and hair offsite, and then going to the venue to get dressed. If you talk to your photographer and hair/makeup team they should be able to give you a better idea of when you need to be ready to make the most of your day and all the photos that you want to get. I am personally not doing a first look, but we are going to do as many photos beforehand to get them all out of the way so after the ceremony we can be quick and get to the reception.
