Timeline for alterations

Stephanie, on June 6, 2020 at 10:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
I had my first alterations appointment yesterday. My next appointment is August 8. Before the next appointment she is going to bring in the sides and add a belt and a few other things. After the appointment in August, she will measure for the hem and make any additional alterations as needed. My wedding is September 19th. Do you think having the next alteration appointment in August is enough time to have everything done?? My seamstress seems kind of all over the place and I’m really concerned that things may not be altered correctly and then we’ll be in a time crunch. But I really don’t know how alterations work usually.

My seamstress recommended to start the fitting for the November 4th wedding mid to late August. She expects 6 weeks for all the alterations, which is not much. I trust her and she seems on the ball so I am not worried but I would want it completed 3 weeks before so I feel better. This way there’s time to do any additional tweaks.

My dress took four weeks and I think that’s cutting it a little close. They may let you pay extra to rush it.

I would move it up if you can. If your gut says she's unorganized and you're worried, trust it.

I would move it up to sometime in July if you can but I think that’s still enough time anyway in August but it’s more assuring to move it up

My seamstress isn’t going to see me until a month before my wedding and I’m a bit nervous although I have used her before and she doesn’t do this as a business so it’s not like she has a lot of dresses to alter. She recommended doing to the fitting and alterations so close to the wedding (and she is right about this) because often brides lose weight right before the wedding...it happens. The first/last time I got married this happened and my dress ended up being too big and loose because I opted to have alterations done early.

I’m not going to make that mistake again lol. I also ordered my dress with custom measurements so I’m hoping it fits rather well and needs minimal adjustments.
