Timeline for a 630pm ceremony start

Lisa, on February 26, 2022 at 10:38 PM Posted in Planning 3 8
Hi! My ceremony is starting at 6:30pm & my photographer is telling us to be ready no later than 2pm. Is that too early to be ready? We are getting ready at the venue (including hair & make up) & we are doing a first look. When I spoke to the photographer the timeline made sense, but I just feel like being ready at 2pm is very early.

That’s 4 hours of pictures which is a lot. Most photo shoots at a wedding are 2 - 2.5 hours at most including post-ceremony pictures. Are you planning to have mostly posed photos or candid? They are professionals who do this for a living so timelines are part of their job. Some have more experience than others and so a newer photographer won’t know what timelines to use.

They’ve been in business a while but idk it just sounds like a long time considering the ceremony start time. When he explain it he said you take pictures before your ready, then pictures while your getting ready, then pictures once everyone is dressed, then bridal portraits, then the first look, then pictures around the venue.. and he said we finish like 45 minutes before the ceremony.

In theory 4 hrs sounds like a lot but I bet it will fly by. I d rather have a little extra time than be running late. Where are the pictures being taken, will you be going to more then 1 location? I was in a wedding and we were ready at 1 for a 5pm ceremony and we were so busy. There were a few locations for the photos though but all the bridesmaids said they wished we had a little time to sit before the actual ceremony.

It sounds like he wants to start taking pictures at 2pm, which is when you start getting ready. So he's not saying you have to have full hair and makeup by 2. He is going to start taking photos of you getting your hair and make up done with your bridesmaids at 2. Did that sound right? What does his timeline say you should be finished getting dressed with hair and makeup done?

It depends on the extent of photos and what else you will be doing during that time. We had a 6:15 ceremony start time and we needed to be fully dressed with hair and makeup completed by 1 pm. However, we didn't get ready at the venue, we had photos in multiple locations, we did our family photos before the ceremony, and we had an additional religious ceremonial component before the wedding. 2 pm seems reasonable depending on how many photos you plan on taking.

We started photos at 1pm for a 5:00 start. Hair and makeup waa done by 1pm. 4 hrs sounds like a lot but it goes fast and you don't want to rush through it.

He said everyone ready no later than 2pm. So basically hair and make up done, just not dressed.

So literally everything is getting done at the venue. Hair, make up, first look, all photos, legit everything. That’s the only reason it made me think, because we literally don’t have to travel at all
