Timeline and cake cutting

Whitney, on July 25, 2017 at 8:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Currently, our reception is set to end at 10 PM and the cake cutting will be at 8:30 PM. However, I'm not sure if we will have enough time for anniversary dance, wedding shoe game, and dancing (only about 1 hour, 45 minutes), so we may extend our reception til 11 PM. If we extend our reception, should I make the cake cutting later? Some have said that we shouldn't do it too late so I feel that 8:30 is still a good time. Thanks!

For us, dinner service starts at 6:15pm, cake cutting is at 7:15, and parent dances are right after. Dance floor opens at 7:30/7:45p. We are not doing the anniversary dance or shoe game or any tosses. Our exit is timed with the last fast ferry to the mainland (leaves 10:15p).

I don't think you should delay the cake cutting even if you extend your reception. If you move back the cake cutting and the anniversary dance it will get late before the dancing starts and you will feel like you still had no time to dance.

Cut out the wedding shoe game and the anniversary dance. That will give you more time for dancing.

Also, my wedding ended at 12:30AM on a Thursday night. I don't know about your crowd, but mine partied until the lights came on.

Our cake cutting is towards the end of our dinner (6-7pm) because no one really pays attention to the cake cutting... its usually between the bride and groom. Just make sure the videographer and photographer are there!

Trust me, you're going to be at the reception wishing all the extras get out of the way! You're gonna want to party!

I think that is a good time for the cake cutting. I think it's more important than the shoe game, anniversary dance, etc., so you want to make sure it happens before people start leaving.
