Timeline - after first dance, should people sit and eat or join and dance?

Am, on June 21, 2019 at 4:40 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 10
Hi!

trying to decide our timeline... between two options:

OPTION 1
1. First dance
2. Guests join with their partners toward end of first dance
3. Dancing
4. Sit for first course

OPTION 2
1. First dance
2. First course
3. Father-daughter dance
4. Dancing

I like option 1 because it gets guests up and dancing sooner than later BUT i like option 2 because guests will be watching first dance from there seats (based on our room set up) so I’m wondering if it’s just easier to have them stay at their tables to enjoy the first course - also dancing after first dance would be relatively short (5-10 min) since our venue wants people seated soon after that to get their dinner orders in.

i guess I’m asking is a short dancing set after first dance worth it for guests - this is the only way I’ve ever seen it done - Or just get that first course out of the way while guests are already near their tables? I just don’t want guests to feel like “oh we watch them dance and then don’t get to dance ourselves” (option 1) or to feel like “oh we just start dancing, now we need to sit?” (Option 2)

thanks for your guys advice!

As a guest, I would much prefer to go straight into dinner at the start of the reception. I'm not in the mood for dancing at that point and it's odd to attend cocktail hour, find your seat, get up and dance, go back to your seat to eat, then get up and dance again.

Can you do the dances after dinner? That’s what we did to open the dance floor for everyone. I think it’s confusing to have people dance for one or two songs and then sit down for the first course, plus I’d probably be hungry and not in a dancing mood yet.

I was under the impression that you do the dancing after the dinner?

That is what I am doing anyways.

I did first dance and then we went into dinner and then we continued with other festivities like speeches and then bouquet toss and garter led to dance floor opening

Definitely option #2. Even if you have appetizers at cocktail hour, guests are going to want to find their seats, watch the introductions, and then eat.

We are doing out our first dance as soon as we enter the reception but then the roasts and the parent dances will be while guests are finishing up dinner.

Were having everyone sit and be served their salad while the bridal party is introduced, then we are coming right into our first dance with our intro whole everyone is eating their salads. Then having dinner served after and open dance.

I forgot to mention, we are not having anyone join our first dance. FH says that feels wired to him.

Option 2. Because you don’t want to get guests up and dancing just to sit everybody down again. It’s a bad flow of events.
