Time of the ceremony

Jessie, on July 23, 2014 at 11:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

I cannot for the life of me decide what a good time to start the wedding ceremony is. I don't want to do it too late and feel like the day is half way over before we start. However, I also don't want to start it too early and feel rushed that morning. What is a good time?

You might look at when sunset is on that date to help decide how dark it will be so you can figure out when you want to take photos and work backwards?

My ceremony is at 4pm and I feel like that is a pretty reasonable time. But a little later or a little earlier would have been fine too.

I also love the idea of a brunch wedding or sunset ceremony...so it just depends on what you are wanting.

Depends on what type of ceremony and reception you want. We wanted our vow renewal to feel more like a part and wanted a late night reception. Our ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. is cocktail hour and 8:00 p.m. - midnight is our reception Smiley smile

I think 6pm is a great time to start. Personally, I am starting later because my wedding is on a Friday. My ceremony is at 7:30pm followed by a cocktail hour 8-9pm and reception 9pm-1am.

Date twin! okay here are my sunset notes from may 16th of this year! (yall dont make fun! im a perfectionist and my pictures are my priority haha)

    5:00 - sun still high.

6:00 - still high. completley light outside.

6:30 - halfway to the tree line. shadows. plenty of light.

7:00 - "golden" tint outside still plenty of light. sun is not below the tree line yet.

7:20 - sun below the tree line. "sky art" (those pretty sunset clouds lol) beginning to get dark but very visible.

7:45 - lights would be very appropriate.

i took that little timeline and decided on 6:00. its spring/summer so the days are longer so you dont need to feel like the day is almost over with. that way you wont have to rush, your guest wont have to rush and the day is far from over! plus you get plenty of time to get perfect sunset pictures (:

We are getting married on the same date. Smiley smile I did exactly what Northern MN suggested. Our photographer told us about the 'golden hour.' Which is the best time to take pictures outside. No harsh direct lights, but enough light where everything is still lit. The golden hour is usually the hour before sunset. What we did, is plan for the ceremony to be over a little before that begins. Our ceremony will be at 6:30pm. If that sounds like what you want to do, use this website. http://jekophoto.eu/tools/twilight-calculator-blue-hour-golden-hour/index.php to find out what time would be best in your area. You input your date, your location, and make sure to hit the drop down "mode" menu and make sure 'golden hour' is in your selection.

Ours is 5-10. There will be no traveling in between the ceremony will be at the same place/setting as the reception. In fact our guest will be at their tables already during the ceremony. So a quick 20 minutes to say "I do" then let the party begin!!!

@Northern, if you're having your ceremony at 4, how long will your ceremony be? Will you serve dinner immediately after?

I'm considering around the same time, but I don't want to feel like we're eating too early..

We are having the ceremony start at 4:20. Why? Because it's the only time my friends can remember.... for obvious reasons lol

We are starting at 4pm which I think is typical. We are having a summer wedding and so it will take some time to get dark.

I'm starting the ceremony at 330pm since my wedding is on a Sunday. We'll have a cocktail hour from 4-5 since the ceremony and reception are on the same site and 5-9 reception. Smiley smile
