Time capsule poem

Ostrichka, on January 24, 2016 at 2:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I've posted about this on other threads--instead of a traditional guestbook, we are going to have three jars where people can drop us notes of advice, well wishes, etc. for us to open on future anniversaries. (Probably 1, 3, 5.) I'd like to put a little sign next to them so people know what to do. This is what I'm thinking of putting on the sign:

In lieu of a guestbook

we seek your advice

a poem or drawing

would also be nice

good jokes or bad jokes

it's all welcome here

we promise not to open

till the designated year

Thoughts? If you are doing something similar, which anniversary or anniversaries did you decide to open them on?

I think your years are fine. Or you could do 1, 5, 10.

I'd change the last line to: 'til the designated year

'til is the shortened form of until

till (verb) is something you do to the soil

till (noun) is the cash drawer

Thanks! I was worried our poem was a little "cutesy."

Actually, "till" may be properly used as a preposition. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/till and for a longer explanation: http://www.lawprose.org/lawprose-lesson-138-why-is-til-considered-an-error-for-the-preposition-till/

We are thinking about doing something similar. During our ceremony, we are thinking about doing a wine box with love letters to each other (we'd open it and read them every anniversary). We were thinking about having our guests write little notes to us and put it in the wine box with our letters. This would mean we would open them at 1 year. I think I'm too impatient to wait longer than that. If someone wrote me a note, I'm going to want to read it immediately. Even waiting a year is going to be tough for me.

Waiting 10 years seems like so long, which is why I originally said 1,3,5. But I might need to reconsider based on feedback. It will probably be very interesting to see what kind of advice is there in 2026!
