Time between ceremony and reception when at different venues?

2015Bride, on June 6, 2013 at 7:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi Everyone Smiley smile

Just wondering for those who had/are going to have your ceremony and reception and two different sites, how long did you have between the end of the ceremony and the start of the reception?

We were originally planning to have the ceremony around the 230/3pm mark and then having the reception around 5pm.

However we have just heard back from the Cathedral we want to have our ceremony at and the only time options due to Sunday masses are 130pm and be out by 3pm or a ceremony starting at 7pm.

The 7pm option is too late so we are going to go for the earlier time. Nothing is booked or set in stone so I am not too worried at this stage, but was just wondering on peoples opinion for a ceremony that finishes at 3pm, what is the latest time you think a reception should start without it being an inconvenience for the guests as we were wanting more of an evening event for the reception? (The two sites are only about 15 minutes apart)

Thanks everyone Smiley smile

We are doing our stuff at two different places. Ceremony at 3 and reception to start at 5. We talked with our photographer and got a time idea on pictures (we're doing ours after the ceremony) and a rough idea on the ceremony from our pastor and decided that was a good timing. We aren't doing a Catholic cermony though and I know those tend to run a little longer than the one we're having. Hope that helps!

We are having our ceremony at 3 PM and reception at 6 PM. I guess that's a little far apart, but I've been to worse. I really wanted to make sure we were done with pictures in time to enjoy our cocktail hour.

I think that 2 hours between is a reasonable amount of time in between, as long as thats enough time for your guests to exit your ceremony space + chat time + travel time to the reception.

My ceremony is 3-4 and my cocktail hour is at a different place and doesn't start until 6. So I'm hoping the two hour difference is okay for everyone like Jaimie said I wanted to enjoy my cocktail hour with everyone so we made time for pictures.

That depends on how far the venues are apart... You said about 15 minutes, so thats similur to what we have planned. Here is the way we have it set up- We are having a church ceremony at 4, and having our reception at a vineyard about 20 minutes away. I have guests arriving at the reception at 5:15, and us arriving at 6:15. Allow about an hour for guests to arrive, and if you guys plan on post-ceremony pictures with family, or alone give yourself an extra hour.

Our ceremony starts at 3pm. The reception is from 5 to 8pm. The DJ is only allowed to start setting up at 4pm. So with an hour of photos after ceremony I believe all will work out fine for us. Doesn't take DJ that long to set up. Bout 45 mins. Our reception venue is like 200 or 300 yards maybe not that far. I'm estimating here. From the church where the ceremony will take place and those not being in the pics are allowed to head on to the reception site and get their tables. We aren't far behind. Good luck with urs and congrats.

Our ceremony is at 1 and the reception is from 4:30-8:30 with my planning on us getting there about 5.

The venues are about 30 min apart. I'm hoping it's enough to do pics (location is halfway between).
