Ties and pocket squares not matching?

Erin, on April 16, 2019 at 5:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

So I recently read that pocket squares and ties should not match (I feel silly, but just assumed they should!) Our groomsmen are wearing black tuxes from men's wearhouse with grape ties from azazie.com to match the bridesmaid dresses.

The groom is wearing a black tux. We were going to have the groom wear a black bow tie and a grape pocket square (again to match the bridesmaid dress).

Does this seem okay? What color pocket square should the groomsmen wear? White? I'm afraid another color might throw it off. Is it okay for the groom to wear the grape colored pocket square? Or should his be white too?

Any advice is welcome! Do you ever feel like you have things figured out and then a small detail pops up and you feel a bit crazy haha.....Smiley tongue

I have never heard that. All the guys are wearing grey tuxes from Men's Warehouse with the tie and pocket square matching the bridesmaids dresses. FH is wearing same tux but with ivory tie and pocket square.

Do whatever you want! It's your wedding!

I thought they should match, but men’s warehouse doesn’t have a matching pocket square. The men will be wearing light gray tuxes with the peach tie, but MW doesn’t have a peach pocket square, so we’re going with the white one to match their shirts under the tux.

We were told we can bring in a color Swatch and they'll make the pocket square to match the bridesmaid's dresses. Just thought I'd pass on the info. We already brought them in and FH will be going to check the progress this weekend while he gets his final tux fitting.

Do whatever you think looks goid and makes you all happy. Personally, I'd prefer something matching or a pattern in the same color more than throwing in a random color.

I'm not sure why they shouldn't match? However, I'd personally have the groomsmen wear grape pocket squares and the groom wear a white pocket square. Just because I feel like giving the groom something white sets him apart as the groom more....just personal preference though.

That's funny because I've always heard that the tie and pocket square should match. When I think about it, that's what makes the most sense. For me, I don't know what other color we would choose. The GMs will be in black suits w/purple ties and pocket squares. I don't have another color in my scheme. Now I'm worried that I won't be able to find the right pocket squares! Ugh.

Thank you, everyone! I did read some additional things that said in normal men's fashion, you don't want them to match, but in weddings it's more appropriate since there is usually a lot of color coordination going on.

I've decided to just have the ties and pocket squares match. It's easier, and honestly no one will care. Sometimes I feel like wedding stuff makes me obsess over little details, but you kind ladies reminded me that I can do whatever I want because it's my wedding!!!
