Tie patch with rental tie?

Lauren, on August 15, 2019 at 9:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Has anyone looked at or already gotten their FH a tie patch as their wedding gift? I really want to get one for my FH with a picture of his Mom who passed away, but we are renting tuxes and won't be able to sew it on. Has anyone else had this issue and solved it? TIA!

Maybe you could do something like a boutonnière pin instead?

Would you consider buying his tie, either to match the groomsmen or different from theirs? Then you can sew the patch on his tie, and he will have it as a keepsake or to wear again. (The groom often has a different tie.)

Some of those patches are adhesive.

I have thought of that, it's an option if I can find a tie that's not ridiculously priced and matches the colors were going with. But I've looked at purchasing a tie from Mens Warehouse and its $60 which is crazy to me! He has never worn a tie in the 5 years I've known him so I wouldnt want to spend too much on it. So I'm hoping to keep this as plan B!

I was wondering if they had ones like that! I hadn't seen any on Etsy that you could print an picture on and embroider but I'm going to keep looking!

Yeah, personally, I think Mens Warehouse is super over priced. Try your local retailers like Kohl's -- especially during a sale with coupons. Also, take a look at online retailer, tiexpresso.com -- they have pretty much any color and/or pattern you can imagine, and they are very inexpensive. Good luck!

Also, we made daughter's tie patch for FOB's tie. We bought printable iron-on transfer paper (available at Staples or anywhere else that sells specialty printer papers) and printed the photo on to it. I then ironed the transfer onto some plain white fabric, cut out the photo and handsewed it to the back of the tie. Much less expensive than ordering one from etsy. Good luck!

I am just going to iron mine on and then buy the rental tie. I also ended up doing one for my dad, and his tie was a little easier to match so I bought one from the store rather than the rental. I would say it would be easier to just put it on the rental tie and not return it (that was Men’s Wearhouse recommendation to me)

I didn't even realize that was an option! Do you remember what the extra charge was to keep the tie?

Could you just pin the patch to the rental tie? Or to the jacket?

Yes! It was $25 (not bad in comparison to a lot of their ties being way overpriced). Basically all you do is put the patch on after you pick up the suit and just don’t bring it back lol that’s what all the staff told me to do

For some ridiculous reason you have to do that instead of Men’s Wearhouse just offering an option to buy the same ties new 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe? I am always afraid of the pin coming undone!

I got a tie patch from Etsy (I believe the shop was Custom Couture Label Co). She was super nice and worked with me since my guys are having skinny ties which are smaller than the average tie patch I was finding. I'd definitely recommend a tie patch - it's super cute. If you haven't already, sign up for emails from Men's Warehouse and keep an eye out for sales. You might find a deal on ties that's better than the fee for not returning the rental.

Could you maybe try using hem tape to secure it in place?
