Tiara vs hair comb

Adoretamm, on May 8, 2016 at 7:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

I have a bit of a problem. My mom bought me a tiara to wear for the wedding but I don't really like the look of a tiara anymore and I'm having trouble finding hairstyles to wear with the tiara. I bought a pretty comb today and I'd rather wear it but I don't wanna hurt my moms feelings. I was thinking of wearing the tiara for the ceremony and the comb for the reception. Unless you guys could help me find a cute hairstyle with the tiara. Here's the comb I got today and the tiara.

I wish I could help. Have you talked to your mom about not wanting to wear the tiara. Maybe a calm discussion like "Mom, Ive been thinking about my hair on my wedding day and really like this look (show picture) but Id need to wear a comb and not the tiara" and see how she reacts. I like the comb better btw..

I've never really cared for tiaras but I bet if you talk with your mom she'll be ok with it

I'm definitely not a tiara kind of person, and that comb is very pretty. I think you could get away with just wearing it part of the time or for some of the pictures. Or you could do April's suggestion and just tell your mom how you feel about it.

I vote the comb over the tiara as well. Just tell her you fell in love with a hairdo that requires a comb in lieu of a tiara. And you'd like her blessing

Please don't wear the tiara. I get the point of the compromise you proposed, but if you wear it for the ceremony, that means the majority of your professional photos will have the tiara.

What Liraea said ... Plus if your hairstyle is built around a tiara you can't just swap in a comb.

We don't know the whole story but I feel like your mom really overstepped the bounds by buying you a tiara. That is a very personal decision regarding how you envision your look for the day. Or did you say you wanted one and that is why she bought it?

Do half up half down and put the tiara on first before you do the hair so your hair style will wrap around the tiara and hold it into place without having an extreme. Hair style.

@Adoretamm, I had the EXACT same issue. My mom bought me a tiara as well and she loves it. She teared up when I put it on. I wasn't against it at first, but now that I tried it on, I can't stand it. It's not what I want at all. I like the hair comb that you have better anyway. I didn't want to hurt my moms feelings either but I politely told her that I appreciated her gesture but that it just wasn't what I envisioned for our wedding day. She took it better than I thought! Hopefully your mom will too Smiley smile

I agree with what everyone else has said, I think that depending on how your hair is done it might not be as easy to swap out the tiara for the comb.

JRocka's suggestion is perfect, it takes away from your not wanting to wear it and makes it about functionality!

I totally have this but with my veil. I would explain the situation to her. If you compromise wear the tiara while you are getting ready but for the ceremony and reception wear the comb. That way you at least have some photos with the piece she bought.
