Just Said Yes December 2020

Thoughts?

Lenae, on July 25, 2019 at 11:30 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11
My FH and I have gotten very negative comments about our engagement from most of the family except our parents, who are excited. Because of this we are planning on just hiring an officiant and doing a small ceremony with just our parents. Thoughts?

If that's what you want to do, then do it.

That's fine, that's more intimate anyway. Should you ever decide to have a larger celebration it could be done later.

Go for it if that’s what you want.

Go for it. Don't invite haters, have a good day with your parents and go on an epic honeymoon

Do it! no reason to feed and spend money on people that are not happy with your union.

Do what you want! It’s YOUR day. Haters don’t deserve to be there.

If that is what you want to do, then that is what you should do. You definitely don't want negativity surrounding your big day, so I don't see anything wrong with an intimate ceremony. That way you will save a lot of money, and can maybe take a more extravagant honeymoon instead.

From your post yesterday, it seemed like you aren’t even 18 yet. While it’s definitely your decision to elope if it’s legal where you live, I urge you to consider that your parents may be trying to get you to take your time and slow down a bit because you’re not even an adult yet and you’re trying to make adult decisions.

I agree with Sarah. There may be a reason they aren't supportive. I understand being so excited to get married and wanting to do so, but there is no harm in waiting a few years! You can still live together and be life partners. Marriage and a wedding are wonderful things, but they aren't necessary and can wait. These people probably care a lot about you and are advising you because of that.

I came here to ask why everyone is being unsupportive and it appears because you're under 18? If that's the case I do agree with some of the comments here in saying there is no rush in getting married! I understand you love each other which is wonderful but that love will still be there and continue to grow if you wait a few more years.
