Thoughts on "new" straps?

Kristin, on June 28, 2019 at 12:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 23

When I took my dress in for alterations, I requested that the seamstress add wider straps for support. I think it matches fairly well, but wanted to be sure the new straps still fit with the style of the dress? (Edited to add - they aren't evenly scrunched in the picture, but will be adjusted to be symmetrical!)

I've also attached a stock image of the original - it was actually a prom dress that I fell in love with, and conveniently found new from a private seller.

Thanks in advance! I'm probably overthinking it since we're just under a month out.. Smiley smile

I love the new straps even better than the old ones! More elegant. The dress looks better on you than the model. Woo hoo. 🎉 Can’t believe that’s a prom dress, looks like a wedding dress to me. ❤️

Thank you! She had a really hard time finding tulle to match, I think she ended up using scraps from another brides' dress (with permission, of course!)

The straps totally go with the bottom skirt of the dress. Well done!

It photographs beautifully and the details look as polished as a wedding dress! A wedding dress with this kind of silhouette and lace/beading would probably run $2,500-$3,500. Well done.

The straps look awesome, but as I always say, the support for your dress comes from the waist, if it is well fitted.

Holy cow - that's quite the compliment! I paid $300 for the dress itself, and maybe another $100 or so in alterations (lower cost-of-living area).. I definitely couldn't have funded anything quite so fancy, so I'm thrilled with my "prom" alternative! Smiley laugh

Very true! The beading is pretty heavy, so I think the slightest bit of weight gain/loss really affects how the straps sit - figured I'd rather be safe than sorry Smiley smile
