Thoughts on long or short hair (with pic examples)

Waldy, on June 19, 2019 at 7:08 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 17

So I've gone back and forth since college with long and short hair. I have thick, wavy/curly hair. The longest was down to my bra strap, and I've done a pixie cut a few times. I *want* shoulder length hair for my wedding next year (yes, lots of time to grow it out), and currently my hair is just touching my shoulders. My wedding will be outdoors in October. BUT we're about to hit the swamp here in the DC area, and I usually do the big CHOP to a pixie this time of year. I'm worried if I do the chop, it won't be long enough in a year. I always say I miss my long curls, but at the same time, short hair is just so much easier to deal with. Curious to see what you all think! My FH doesn't really care if I have it long or short. He's seen me with both.

I also go from really long to really short every year.
I absolutely love your first photo hair.

Thank you! it's normally wavy, but I don't have any recent pics of my current hair length in it's true form. haha

I like the length it is now. I dont think you can go from pixie to the bottom pic in 3 months.

Why not cut it to the bottom pictures length for summer and cut it again to that length for the wedding?

Did you cut your hair short this time last year and your current length has grown since then? If so, you can probably expect to be about the same length again this time next year, which means you should potentially have the length you want by October 2020. Do you take any hair and nail supplements? That might also help your hair grow a little faster if you don't already take them. I think your hair looks great in all of the pictures, it's just about what you want you want for your day. I'm hoping my hair will grow out quite a bit before my wedding next September. I've had it short for a couple of years now, but just before my FH proposed I cut it just above my shoulders and that's the shortest I've ever gone!

I hadn't thought of that! I have to go through two DC summers and didn't think what I might do next year. It's not quite at the length of the bottom pic, but once it is, I could put it in a ponytail. Right now, my bottom layer sticks out of a pony

Hi Jessica! This is actually growth from the beginning of this year. I had that fuller pixie for Valentine's Day. So about 4 months of growth! If I did chop it, it would totally be long enough by next October, now that I think about it. I don't take supplements, but it's something I can look into.

I LOVE your hair the length it is now! Generally hair grows 1 inch every 2 months, so if your wedding is October 2020 I think you’d be fine getting a pixie cut now, but it’d probably have to be your last one before the wedding!

Thank you! it's SO close to the length I want, but then I'd have to suffer through two summers of DC heat with longer-ish hair. I think once it's long enough to actually put into a ponytail, things will be better. BUT I JUST HAVE THE URGE TO CHOP IT ALL OFF. haha

Hahaha, I feel you! I definitely wouldn't cut it next summer, but I think you'd be fine to do it now. You have another 15-16 months until your wedding which means your hair will probably grow another 7-8 inches. Even if you get regular trims, you'd still probably get it long enough. To account for getting an occasional trim though, I'd just measure and make sure you'd be ok with it if it only grew like 6 from whatever you decide to do now Smiley smile

Oh, yeah - next summer I'm going to have to suffer big time. I never really keep track of how long my hair gets in a certain time frame, but it *should* be long enough to do something with next year!

I think you look gorgeous with either style!! I really like the shoulder length on you though.

It all depends on how fast your hair grows. For me, it takes a long time to grow my hair out. If your hair grows fast, then I'm sure you can cut it then grow it out in time!
