ambrok, on June 12, 2017 at 8:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

We plan on ordering our invites tonight & I'm looking for thoughts on the wording/edits, etc. Thanks much!

Wording is typically more formal on wedding invitations with regards to dates, times, and addresses.

    For example:

On Friday, the sixth of October

    Two thousand seventeen

    Five o'clock in the evening

Also, WI should be spelled out as Wisconsin, and I would leave off the zip code.

And I'm not sure there's a hard and fast rule about it, but I wouldn't include an end time for the reception. I'm sure your venue has a hard end, but there are ways to indicate to guests at the reception that it's time to wrap up. I feel like putting that on the invite is a little too informal.

I think your wording is fine for your style of invitation. I more typically see the dates spelled out etc on those thick white letterpress invites

I don't believe I've ever seen a reception ending time on an invitation, so I'm not entirely sure if that's necessary/appropriate.

Also, and I don't mean this to be rude, but unless Kristie is your full first name, you'll want to write it out on your invitation.

I would also personally put the website info on a separate enclosure card to keep with the formality.

Also if the reception is taking place in the same hotel as your wedding, it would be perfectly fine to just say 'dinner and dancing to follow.' You may not think people could get confused by simple instructions, but I swear something about wedding invites makes people forget how to read.

Best of luck with your invite wording, OP!

    Thanks all : )

@ Casey C, I know it’s typical to spell out the date/time; but that’s always annoyed me (not all about me; but not going to really affect the guests either). It’s more of a laid back affair where I’d be totally fine with guest showing up in nice jeans instead of slacks/dress & with the seal-n-send type invite…it’s not too formal, in my opinion. Good point on spelling out the state, dropping the zip code & end time!

@ FutureMrs2017…yes, our full first names are being used : ) The reception is at a convention center attached & manage by the hotel. For those arriving for the reception only, they will need to know that name.

As for listing the website being listed on the invite, we decided to keep things simple, less papers=info in one spot & won’t get lost, etc. Our website will list hotel info, ceremony/reception/parking info, registry, etc.

I’ve been told by a close friend that I’m not all that traditional, so I’m OK with things being different from the norm as long as it doesn’t affect the guests.

I should point out that we are inviting guests to both the ceremony & reception; but being a Friday wedding, I just feel that we will see some show up after work/after the ceremony.

I know you didn't ask but I wanted these seal and send invitations until we received one and Joe threw it out because he thought it was junk mail.

@Nonna....thanks : ) I haven't thought much about that. I'll be sure to include our names on the return address in hopes that gets seen. We also sent out STDs, so if a guest doesn't get an invite via mailing issues or tosses it...hopefully they will reach out to us?!?
