Thoughts on a videographer

Johanna, on September 6, 2019 at 12:53 PM Posted in Planning 1 15
I’m debating about getting a videographer. It’s in my “nice to have” column at the moment. They are just so expensive that I don’t know if I want to spend that much for it. I do know that I’m willing to spend money on a photographer but a videographer i just don’t see much wedding videos out there anyway. What are your thoughts? A “need to have”? Or are you not having one either.

A video was a necessity for us, but it's definitely not for everyone. If you're on the fence, what about booking someone for just the ceremony?

I am with you on that. I cut it out to have 2 photographers for 9 hours/each, but recently started rethinking this and started doing some research.

Now that we are 2 months out I am finding videographers are giving me much better prices, because they haven't filled that date and likely won't fill it. I am also having them quote raw footage, only. Just like with photographers, videographers meticulously edit their work and that's what you are mostly paying for.

    We’re diy’g that aspect.

We purchased 2 small 📹. I asked 2 guys if very different heights to record for us.

FH will combine and edit the video(s) for the final results.

    Congratulations!

I was in the same boat and at two months out decided I really wanted video of the ceremony. So I found someone to do raw footage for $500. We'll have it edited for our one year anniversary.

Video was not a necessity for us! We are very shy/private people anyways, and would not do well with video camera following us everywhere. We splurged a bit to get an excellent photographer/photography package instead (:

It's a "nice to have" for me. If we had a larger budget, I may have considered it. But after thinking about it, no one other than my FH and I would probably watch it more than once and even then, after the "honeymoon phase" I'm sure we'd forget about it and wouldn't watch it very often.

We didn’t have a videographer and have no regrets almost a year later. Our pictures are great.

We are not having one, while I love seeing wedding videos online, I don’t think of it as a necessity for us. I think we’d watch it once and then probably never again so we decided not to. I’m very excited for pictures and I know we will look back at those all the time

We aren't having one, nor did we want one. We would rather have the photo memories. We are also keeping everything super simple so it wouldn't have been worth the expense for such a casual gathering.

I am a VERY skewed opinion because I work professionally in video production but...yes, a video was an absolute neccessity for me. We didn't have the money for a full day of video so we compromised and hired someone to only shoot our ceremony. No regrets at all. Honestly, it's 2019. Video is just as precious as photos. No, you can't hang the video on your wall, or put it in a photo album. But, there is absolutely nothing like watching your wedding through the eyes of someone else. The movement, the expressions, there are just feelings that photos cannot 100% capture. Photography is great, it was important to me, but there is something magical about watching your day play out. If you can find someone to do your ceremony, the most important part of your day, it is definitely worth it.

We also still watch our video regularly...so not a waste of money or something we just "forgot about".

I was on the fence on having video due to pricing. But after talking to a few family members they wished they had chosen to have it.

It also helped me decided that when I was growing up my siblings and I would always watch our parents wedding video. It is just nice to watch all of your family and special moments.

I found a guy that's Really Good. 8hrs he charges 800$. I know it's a steal! I recently got a quote for 2k ummmmm nope! But I agree it's definitely a newer emergence in weddings and I do wish to watch the expressions. I am also cutting my bridal party photos short. I would love to have photos during cocktail hour.

Video was a necessity for me. It has become even more so now that my husband's only groomsman (his only sibling) recently passed away unexpectedly. Our video has wonderful footage of him that we cherish. However, even before then, we watched our video several times after our wedding and I love being able to see our wedding from our guests' perspective.

We wanted a video but we're not willing to pay upwards for $1,000 for it. In general, we weren't big on dropping tons of money to have strangers get involved in our wedding. Being that we run in a very artsy crowd, we went the "friendor" route in almost every area. One of the groomsmen's husband was an assistant videographer for a while and we own a 4K video camera. Problem solved. We'll edit it and make DVDs ourselves.

I always knew I wanted video. When I was looking at photographers, I saw some that actually offered packages that included videography so that's what we're doing. That way it's with the same company and we won't have to worry about getting it from anyone else.
