Thoughts on a Cathedral length Veil? Pros and Cons?

Jessica, on May 12, 2010 at 3:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hi everyone!

I am trying to figure out what length veil to get for my wedding. My dress has a train of about 1-2 feet. It will be bustled up at the reception. The veil will only be worn at the ceremony, and later removed for the reception. I love the idea of having a long flowing veil, but I wanted to get some thoughts on the cathedral length. It looks so beautiful, but I am worried that it will get all caught up and twisted when we are up at the altar of the church, taking pictures, etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Would a chapel length or just floor length be less of a hassle?

Thanks!

Jessica

I love the long veils...but I think a cathedral length will be harder to manage because it will be dragging on the floor/dress. How about a knee length or a fingertip veil? They are still flowy and beautiful but not as long so you don't have to deal with it dragging on the floor.

I had a cathedral length veil and it was NOT difficult to manage at all. AND my wedding was outside, with hurricane winds! lol

As long as it is secure in your hair, you will have no problems. It will be behind you, the same as the train, and won't be a problem at all.

What does the dress look like?

The dress is strapless, extended bodice with sweetheart neckline and a ballgown skirt with asymmetrical pickups and drapping. There is a low V in the back. I love the long veils. My mom wants me to get a cathedral length since our ceremony is in a cathedral and has a long aisle. I'm just worried about getting caught up in it when I turn around and such.

Analy M - sounds like this wasnt a problem for you though?

I LOVE long veils...I think I'm going to go with a chapel length (just slightly longer than the train on my dress. But I think the longer ones are just so pretty...oh the gorgeous pictures of it flowing behind you!

That being said I think your dress may also have something to do with whether it will work out or not...does your dress have sequence or something that might get caught on the veil...I tried on one dress and every veil they put with it kept getting uncomfortably caught up in it. Maybe take your dress to a bridal shop and see how the longer veils work with it.

Definately not a problem! Smiley smile It will follow behind you easily. You might want to try one on a bridal shop, and walk back and forth a few times, to see what I mean.

Here are some shots from the wedding. As you can see, it adds a lot od drama, especially in the wind!

Thanks ladies! I think it is a good idea to try some on at the bridal shop first. I have my first fitting in July, so I can ask them to try on the different length veils (chapel vs cathedral). My dress is satin. There are some pearl buttons down the back, but the veil should not get caught up on the dress.

    Thanks!!

I love the pictures I've seen of veils blowing in the wind, but I also saw a bride's head get jerked back as she turned to walk up the aisle with the groom while her veil was stuck on something behind her. Awkward, but then, those things happen.
