It sounds like she did it by having contacts no one else has. But definitely more questions than answers.

She waited until the day before her wedding to buy a dress?!? Ballsy. Sounds like they didn't host drinks either. Shitty.

    1) I would never ever even think of waiting THE DAY BEFORE MY WEDDING to buy a wedding dress

    2) Disposable cameras..how much is it going to cost to develop 1000 blurry pictures of the ceiling?

Let me guess she got a lot of free shit, friends and family pitched in to make her day the best, and she didn't have real food. How many did I get right? I didn't even read the article just want to see how well I do with guessing before reading.

Cheese and crackers instead of a cake ?! Who even needs almost $40 worth of cheese and crackers ?!

@Kristin booze was never an option on $1300. It was the free square on the bingo card

Sounds like they got a good deal on food/booze since her husband is in the hospitality industry, and spent virtually nothing on anything else.

“The pub did canapes of calamari and pork pies and we had a £30 ($39) cheese tower with crackers instead of a cake.” So it was poorly hosted and everyone was starving.

They had finger foods and I'm sure the $1300 does not include the cost of getting those disposable cameras developed.

The dress and the cheese tower were what put me over the edge. I get that cake is not for everyone, but if all I was offered were pork pies and cheese I'd be salty (pun totally intended). I just don't get

    1. why the author felt others would benefit from this since a majority of us don't have fiances in the restaurant industry

    2. how slow a news day this must have been to merit being featured on MSN's main page

I LOATHE these articles!! She didn't have a lovely wedding, she skimped on hosting!

I also hate when people talk about low cost weddings that include friends and family giving them things or doing favors. You didn't skip those costs, someone else shouldered them for you!!! That would be like going out to dinner where you and your friends each contribute and saying, "I fed 10 people dinner for just $20!!!"

ETA: I could probably eat my weight in cheese so that sounded like the best part of this debacle

When I was working 4 jobs trying to pull myself out of student loan debt (paid off $50k in 19 months fuck yeah) so my fiance and I could build/buy a house and start a life, it was always "How I paid off $100k of debt in just 6 months!" The answer? Oh, just make $100k/yr, or combine an income with a spouse so you could dedicate an entire salary to the debt, or just be a doctor! Anyone can do it!

Now with weddings it's the same shit. "How I had a wedding for $1300" means she hired friends and family, who gave her the most expensive services for free.

    Literally the worst.

What are the chances of finding a gown that fits and you like the day before your wedding? Groom in a clown suit. Reception with cheese and crackers in a pub? YUCK. Pork pies. Imagine tiny versions of Swanson's frozen chicken pot pies Deep fried squid??. Her bouquet looks like a pile of ragweed. Sorry, not buying this one. Snarky comment.... TRAILER PARK THEMED.

I can honestly say, one of my BMs did this last November. BUT here is the low-low on it:

1 - They got married at the courthouse on their 10th anniversary. It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

2 - The reception was the following Saturday. In their backyard (house really since it ended up pouring and it wasn't supposed to rain).

3 - Photographer was a close family friend who offered to do it as a wedding gift. Normally, she charges $2000 for such an event.

4 - Most of the decorations were purchased using coupons (50 and 60% off) over an 8 month period.

5 - Catering was a taco guy because they originally met at a Taco Tuesday event. Those are pretty cheap here in SoCal.

6 - Alcohol was from their own bar. Everything else was purchased at Costco.

7 - The favors were made by the bride (homemade soap). Again with items purchased on sale.

8 - Brides's dress was from ModCloth and it looked amazing on her.

9 - Flowers were purchased the day before in the floral district and assembled by us. Only splurge was her bouquet, which she did have made.

Again, can it be done and come out great? Absolutely! The dollar amount you spend does NOT matter, what does if you are happy with the day. Personally, I think less is more.
