This or that? (photography vs videography)

Cece, on October 7, 2021 at 1:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

I love how different everyone's wedding visions and priorities are here on Wedding Wire, so I thought it'd be fun to create a series of polls to see what everyone values the most for their special days!

Which is more important to you….photography or videography (and why)?

100% photography, though videography is a close second! I love looking at photos, and I can display them around my home. I am excited to see how our wedding video will turn out too, though photography has always been my top priority (aside from marrying my fiance).

Photography! I know I'll use those pictures, but I don't think I would watch my video.

Photos. I'm never going to watch the video and I think it's a better way to be present because you aren't worrying about the video

    Videography.

I've looked at my wedding photos maybe five times in the eighteen years since I got married.

I've watched the couple of minutes of crappy camcorder footage that someone managed to get us at least two dozen times.

Photos will never compare to the emotions and reality captured by video.

Photographer. I love watching the videos from people's weddings, but I feel like I'd only watch my own a handful of times. The photos though I plan to incorporate into our picture wall, so those will be displayed for a long time.

Photography! The thought of watching myself on video makes me cringe 🤣

Another vote for photography, but I've come round to the idea of capturing our ceremony with a livestream on a stationary camera -

I also thought video would make me cringe, but my sister had one and it might be because their photographer was basically a scam and we still haven't seen any of their wedding photos as we approach their first anniversary, but their wedding video has captured some really sweet moments you wouldn't have seen in photos - like me sliding her engagement ring back on her finger after the ceremony, my fiance and I holding hands during the speeches, etc.

As my friend says too, there will be a time when x relative won't be alive, and being able to see your husband hug his grandma, or your dad walk you down the aisle is really nice to have, as compared to a static photo.

All of this said though, photos are definitely much, much higher on my priority list

I’m all about the photos so that they can be displayed around my home.

Definitely photography 💚 I don’t not regret not getting a wedding video because my friends video taped a lot of the special moments of our day (like the ceremony and speeches) and we have the full clips of those. I feel like an edited wedding video just gives a highlight of the day, which is basically what pictures can do!

I couldn't have said it better. 100% agree with all of this. We were only going to do photography due to the cost of doing both, but we recently lost my FIL and it has me thinking we should add videography so that we can rewatch those special moments in the years to come and show them to our kids.

Photography. My sister-in-law did take a couple short (free) videos on her phone which I adore.

    Video.

personally, i am not gonna look at hundreds of photos taken that day regularly. but i CAN watch a 3 minute video highlight of the day haha. that made more sense to me ya know? i have for sure watched my video often compared to looking at the numerous photos

100% Photography. Photos can be enlarged, framed, shared as gifts, and something you'll look at so much more frequently than a video. Besides, everything nowadays can be filmed and edited beautifully on a good quality phone.

Photography. I’ll hang photos on the wall and look at them more often than a video.

Photography, but we will have both! My fiancé and I don’t have many good photos together and I’m so excited to have professional photos of us!

    Photography! I didn't have my wedding recorded, I didn't want a film.
