I've eaten at some iffy relatives' houses haha I should probably stop pushing my luck.

As far as self catering, I imagine no one is really watching the food and tending to the food. Flies skeeve me out and I just picture flies on day old casserole waiting to be heated back up *shudder*

I can see it both ways. I'm not self catering, but I am providing a specialty meat to the caterer through a licensed facility. There's options.

When is self catering ok though? Surely most people on here will self cater when they have family around for Christmas or Thanksgiving. Even bridal showers and birthdays I’ve attended have usually been self catered. I get not doing it for a wedding but if you’re making the argument that someone might get sick and sue, well that could (potentially) happen whenever you make food for anyone.
