I always always tell people to find a dress that's nice and not one categorized as a wedding dress. Finding a dress you love vs it being defined as a wedding dress are different. getting out of the categories of dresses opens up your possibilities a lot more.

I agree with PPs! You could wear a white poofy wedding dress if that's what your heart desires! Wear anything you want to!

You can wear whatever you want... now if the room in the courthouse is small/ tight... you may not want the poofiest gown you can possibly find... but if you want to be a princess, go for it. If you want to be Sex and the City wedding suit chic, go for it!
