Thinking of cancelling...

Sabrina, on April 10, 2020 at 10:17 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

Our wedding is scheduled for October and although it's still a while out...we were getting married in California(we live in GA)..with all that is going on..i know a lot of people are losing their jobs and obviously attending my wedding is probably not on top of the to do list...I'm not upset at the thought of cancelling..(I kinda wanted to elope anyways lol) but although I'm not personally freaking out...I do not think this pandemic will just be gone..I think we are going to feel the ripple effect from it for a while...Fiance and I have had a small discussion about it...and we are going to give it a few more weeks and see how this keeps going...

Anyone out there that has cancelled or even postponed..how did you feel?

Our wedding is also October (and also in California!) and we have not made the decision to postpone yet. It is giving me a lot of anxiety with so much uncertainty, but we feel it is too early to make a decision at this point. Our ultimate feeling is to continue planning as normal and only quit if our vendors recommend doing so. Prayers for all October brides!

Our wedding was supposed to be last weekend. We have postponed to October and I am also located in (northern) California. The virus isnt going away anytime soon BUT we are hopeful things will be better by October. Its too soon to say how things will unfold. We will be able to tell by Mid August if we will have issues for October. Things are always changing (within 1 week we went from announcing we are not canceling to now we are definitely canceling) and hope they change for the better this time.

We are in October also and are just waiting it’s too early to postpone and it might be okay by then so it’s better to just wait it out.

My best friend's wedding is in september and she doesn't have any plans to cancel it, at least not yet. but i can see where you're coming from because it's not really only about the idea of having a large event but the fact that people have lost their jobs and may be financially straining even by then

Thank you for the replies ladies! Yes it can be taunting especially for me that I’m such a planner lol I think I’m thinking more of my guests a lot of them are sadly not working or have their hours cut and a lot of them were flying in from out of town. Especially my teacher friends who have no idea if they will go to work anytime soon. But will really keep an eye on the situation and see what the next few weeks or months bring! ☺️

    Hi Sabrina,

I'm glad to hear you're not upset about the possibility of your wedding plans changing. I agree with the PP. I think it's a waiting game for fall events at this point.

In my opinion, any time a couple plans a destination wedding, there's a chance that the attendance rate will be lower due to travel costs (hotel, car rental, etc.). This also applies to having a wedding in a newer city of residence, which is what my husband and I did. We are not from MN, but we moved here in 2011 and planned our wedding for 2013. Everyone in our families had to travel to attend, as did many of our friends. All in all, the people whom we wanted to spend the day with us made the trip. Smiley heart

I hope everything normalizes before October. Fingers crossed!
