Thinking about postponing

Chandra, on August 19, 2019 at 12:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
Good afternoon brides, I usually don't put my problems out there, but I'm frustrated and upset. We been planning our wedding since 2016 and we had financial set back after set back and sickness. We both work two jobs, but my fiancee hospital bills blew our budget, so we move our wedding date to September 21 2020. Now we had another set back. We haven't even started to pay for the venue, and it's all inclusive. In we don't want to do the court house. It's so bad, that were thinking bout, just calling the quits. Need advice please

I would do a small ceremony now, and then have the big celebration later on when it makes sense financially. I get wanting a big wedding, but at the end of the day what is more important... the big party or being married?

I would grab our sibs, spouses and my kids (parents are passed, we are 54) and have a small ceremony in a private dining room of a restaurant. (The officiant can be right there, no courthouse needed - plus I had to go to court with my divorce, so.......no) and if people ask, tell them: We were not in a position to have a big wedding. They will understand. I bet a quarter you will not miss the stress and headache that can often accompany planning a big wedding.

You can still make it so special and so fun, just without the stress of planning!

What if if you did like a surprise wedding? Invited people over to your house for dinner, or even for just some drinks and snacks and had an officiant do the wedding right there?! You can still get the white dress and have the special moments

I don't know about your original budget or guest list but there may be ways to make it more affordable. A more DIY venue with tables and chairs may be a good alternative. You can price out catering in your budget range, do simple DIY centerpieces, etc. Search local parks and rec within 20 miles. Many have beautiful buildings or wonderful community centers available to rent at very affordable prices. It may take some searching to find a good fit but well worth it. Scale back on the guest list too if have to. Or push your date till the spring if you think it will help.
