Things taking a toll for the worst

Lindsay, on May 3, 2020 at 11:31 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 14
Ever since Covid started things have just gotten worse for my fiancé and I we first lost his mother and then Covid hit and everything shut down we couldn’t have a funeral and then the wedding disaster, we are suppose to have our wedding July 17 I’m from ny and new my wedding just wasn’t going to happen the way I wanted it so we agreed we did not want to wait anymore and we are going to elope on our day in my parents backyard the date also holds a lot of meaning to us and we have waited two years and just wanted to be married already. We then decided to push our reception and vow renewal to October. Once that decision was made I still had this feeling things may not be ok and then my fiancé lost his job indefinitely and we have taken a pay cut and feel that we cannot keep up with the pressure of paying for this large event. My parents who were ever so kind as to help pay for some are also taking a pay cut and feel that the best option is to now cancel the entire wedding. At first I was sad because I wanted this then we thought it over and realized what was important which was truly just our love and each other. We are going to do a mock photo shoot with my bridal party so everyone can get dressed up like they would have since my girls already have their dresses. Then have an I DO BBQ hopefully next year with everyone who was invited to our wedding. We also decided it was always our dream to really be married on a cruise but we went the other route originally to have everyone celebrate with us we want to now Renew our vows on our honeymoon which is a cruise to Bermuda and I will wear my dress again. I guess I have realized through all of this that it’s so important to truly make yourself happy and you as a couple because all I do is focus on everyone else. I feel extremely sad though and I feel bad because I have now sent out new save the dates and people were still so excited so I guess I’m still struggling with how to tell everyone that now we’re canceling it. It’s something I never thought we would have to do but things have really changed and right now the most important thing is to take care of our bills and get this enormous pressure off our backs. Sorry for the long rant!

My heart goes out to you, because that’s a lot! It’s best that you take care of immediate financial and emotional needs. You could always do a spectacular vow renewal when you’re both ready. A lot of couples here did a courthouse wedding and are throwing their dream vow renewal. ❤️

You're welcome!! You can still enjoy being married right now and your "I do" BBQ in 2021. Then a vow renewal (private on a beach, or a big blow out party, or any other wish) whenever you guys are both ready. Planning a wedding is hard enough (and I lost my job while planning which added soooo much extra stress). Can't imagine throwing Covid on top of it all. Your new plan will give you both time to breathe and readjust.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.

I assure you, your friends will understand (and anyone who cannot be sympathetic to you during this difficult time is no friend at all). I think you and your fiance are focused on the important things (your love for each other) and an elopement is honestly a beautiful thing! Just because you have to cancel the big party doesn't mean your wedding day won't be magical.

You can always celebrate with a big group of people later, even if it's years from now. Celebrating your love will be no less special on your 2nd, 5th, or 10th anniversary if that's what it takes to be in the financial and emotional position to have a big event. Wishing you the best of luck and a very happy marriage!

It all worked out ok. I was able to get a job 6 weeks later (at 1/3 the pay but when you need a job, you take it). Even though we went way over-budget on our wedding our initial budget was much lower than we could have spent so everything worked out fine. But I did have at least two major crying meltdowns over budget...but I heard that happens with weddings! Smiley xd

May your fiance land an even better job soon! Smiley heart

My condolences and you guys are doing what's best not only for you two but bc of the uncontrollable situation. Wish you both the very best and a renewal is worth just as much as a wedding.
    Take care

I'm so sorry about everything you've been going through Lindsay! And I'm so sorry to hear about your fiancé's mom. My heart goes out to you and your family Smiley heart

I'm so glad you have new wedding, I Do BBQ, and honeymoon plans! This crisis is really stripping everything away and focusing on the love and commitment of the marriage ceremony. Smiley ring
