Thick Thighs, Thigh Highs Rolling Down

Jenna, on May 22, 2019 at 12:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 14

Hey brides!

I am having some issues with my thigh highs I purchased with the intention to wear them during my wedding. I've always had issues with thigh highs rolling down, so I was extra careful to measure my (big) thighs and order the proper size in a style that comes with those silicone grips!
Well, unfortunately, those grips arent helping at all and they are rolling, which makes them a pain to attach to my garter belt. I've heard of body adhesive before, that it works like magic to hold up stockings etc.... just wondering if anyone else has tried this, or have other solutions?

I also have some fabulous thunder thighs and have this problem often.

I've heard rave reviews about sock glue, haven't tried it personally myself. Though I do find that most garter belts don't have garters with enough substance to keep my stockings up, so instead I use these:

This site also has more substantial garter belt options, and while they aren't dainty they do the trick. They also carry sock glue if you want to give that a try!

Is your dress floor length? If so, I would say skip the hassle and don’t wear them. I too have thick thighs (well everything 😂) and I can’t imagine wearing something all day and being uncomfortable or worried about them rolling down.

This, too. If you've got some cute lingerie for after the wedding, skip the trouble and change into it later Smiley smile

I definitely skipped any kind of stockings for my July wedding - it was hot enough without them

It is! I'm tempted to skip but my Fiance is adamant we do a garter toss and I was thinking of having something underneath... Would pantyhose be hotter than thigh highs?

You can just do the garter. I think most women just have a garter around their thigh and that's it.

I have pretty impressive thighs, and I prefer the stockings that don't have grips. I get the plus size ones from Yandy, and trust the garter belt to keep them up. Find one with metal clips, rather than plastic.

I was going to wear bandelettes but had the rolling down issue. Skipped it and wore nothing!

Just do the garter. Much easier. If I was doing the garter toss at ours I would even wait til we were about to do it to put it on, but we are skipping that.

Yeah I wouldn’t torture myself with the discomfort of the roll down. Just a garter for decoration for me Smiley smile

I'm just wearing leggings to prevent the godawful inevitable chafing that will occur. Granted I'm not wearing a garter, so this may not work for you if you are.

Posting the solution I found in case other brides are having the same problem:

Well, the suggestions that I just don't wear stockings wasn't really a solution I was looking for; lingerie is important to me personally and I wanted to have something nice on that my future husband would unzip me out of the night of our wedding day. (Plus, let's be honest, I spent good money on a quality garter belt and stockings imported from the UK, and I want my money's worth, LOL!)

I did some googling and found that some brides have had success with 'body' or 'stocking' adhesive. It's used to prevent socks, compression garments, tights, dresses, thigh highs, etc from slipping. Apparently even dancers use it, which was a good indicator to me that this is what I wanted! I ordered specifically the "It Stays! Body Adhesive" from amazon. You can probably also get it at a medical supply store, given that it's used to hold up medical compression garments too. I tried it last night with one of my regular thigh highs and it stayed put for ten hours, despite all of my walking, sitting, crouching, jumping etc... All of the crazy moves I was testing to see if it would hold. Just a warning for any brides that might be sensitive to smells... it's a roll on and it has the smell of rubbing alcohol, but that quickly fades and leaves no lingering odor. I quickly forgot the adhesive was on my skin.
A few tips however, given the reviews on amazon... You have to apply the adhesive to the skin, not to the fabric of the clothing you are trying to adhere to your body. For the stockings, I rolled on my thigh highs like usual, but before I laid the tops flat on my thighs I rolled on the adhesive, then put my stocks ontop of them, applying pressure for about 5 seconds at the most. It's honestly best to do this sitting, especially if you have the rolling down problem like me.

Bonus: I was also having issues getting my garters NOT to fall down my leg (yes, they were the right size, with an elastic to 'hold' them), and I got double-sided clothing tape. It worked like a charm! I'm actually still testing to make sure the tape holds for a few hours, but I've been wearing the garters for about an hour now and they haven't budged. I think I've seen this type of tape at Macy's in the lingerie area, but I've also seen it at some drug stores too. It's online as well, of course.

    Hope that helps!!

Kix'ies thigh highs are the BEST! They have a 3-row SILICONE (important!) no-slip grip design that actually stays up! They also have a bridal collection of thigh highs (white and nude colors). I tried a pair and they literally stayed up all.day.long. Women have gone skydiving in these and they stayed up! I swear these are the best thigh highs on the market.
