Themes

I have chosen my colors for the wedding but I cannot seem to come up with a theme. I love aquarium life and I would like to incorporate that into my reception. Does anyone have any ideas?

Sit down and think about what are the first things that come to mind when you think about aquariums, and maybe even expand it to ocean life. Seashells, starfish, sand dollars, sea glass, those glass globe things that japanese fisherman used to use (sorry, I can't think of what they're called!). You can even go so far as to have little treasure chests with candles & little decorations for your centerpieces. Using sea life or aquarium life gives you a ton of options. You don't have to throw a lot into, just a couple things here and there. If you decide to do goldfish (or other fish) on your centerpieces make sure you know who's willing to take home goldfish before you buy them. I'm speaking from experience. Smiley winking

A way to get the brainstorming going is to go online, look at aquarium accessories. It'll get the creative juices going, and may help to give you and your fiance an idea of what you like, and what you don't.

Good luck! It's a theme that can be a lot of fun, and very gorgeous!

I appreciate your ideas, and I thought about the goldfish thing. As a matter of a fact, I am a goldfish collection and I know a lot about them. Last night I was thinking aout what me and my fiance liked and I decided to change the theme to be centered around everything that we like. I want to have a candy bar with all of our favorite candy, which will be also used as wedding favors. The guests would be able to come in and make their own goodie bag. Of course everything would have to be purple and red. I found tghis really cool website that sells colored candy, from M&Ms to Malt balls. Also I would incorporate your idea in some kind of way because I like aquarium life, maybe little fish tanks with plastic wedding bands in them that the fish can swim through. I still have plenty of time to think of everything I want to be a part of the reception, so I leaving this discussion open for everybody to give me their input.

At my brother in law's wedding, they used a fish bowl filled with seashells and rocks and placed goldfish inside. As a guest, I remember being very impressed (and it was a cheap centerpiece, costing roughly under $15).

The beautiful part of what makes an aquarium so beautiful is the light that casts everywhere. To make this theme stand out I would hire a lighting specialist to give the room the glow you see when you are at an aquarium. Beautiful shimmery fabrics with aqua's, different shades of blues and greens. Plus I think it would be beautiful to use tropical foliage as an accent to give the illusion of underwater plants.

Thanks Krista. I wish I can see a picture of those globes. That sounds like a good idea to try.

Just a caveat on the fish - I've done this & it was great fun, but do have a little fish net around (& someone to use it.) Sometimes little goldfish are not long lived & there's nothing worse that looking at an upside down fish during dinner!

Hello dear, how about since you like aquarium life you do beta fish, 1 in each bowl, which is inexpensive and than put an arrangement of flowers on it as a reception centerpiece. I'm a florist and I did that for a wedding in September. As soon as I get pictures from the bride I willpost them on my webshots. You can also have sea shells in your bouquet and oragami fish at the tables! Just a a few ideas that will not cost a lot for you. God Bless, Nevien of Fifi Flower LLC
